RV6 Jpipe
Hey guys,
Just like the title says, Richie says that they have a prototype for the RL Jpipe...currently its been tested and that they'll have more details in 10 days!
I haven't seen any thread about Jpipes for the RL besides customizing your own so I thought I'll pass on the message! I'll check back with him and see the progress since I plan on getting one

Great news. I have been talking with him about whether or not the 4G TL SHAWD would fit and he too told me they had a prototype for the RL. I txt RLChitown to see if he could get stuff test fitted on his car, gota check back with him to see if he had the time.

i know what a Jpipe is. when I saw the initial thread, I didn't see the "j"..
I saw - "RVS pipe"
I should have read the post more carefully. now I see that RVS is the company...
i'm curious how the sound will change with addition of this pipe. I'd love to get a sligthly deeper sound, but don't want it to sound like a loud a$$ exhaust system...
do these pipes pass CA smog???

I didn't know what RV6 is either.
Here is their results from the '05 base TL J-Pipe which runs $409.
The 4th Gen TL J-Pipe runs $425, but doesn't have results posted.

Dyno tests were performed on an unmodified 05 automatic base TL with 55k miles using a AWD Mustang dyno. We choose this vehicle because it is most common among the community. Higher gains are to be expected with the manual base and TL-s.
13 WHP peak gained
7 WTQ peak gained

in 10 days we will get told "it's still in progress"...
If they make them - I'll buy one.
Keep in mind, however, it's easy to say you have a "prototype".... maybe they are just looking to feel the waters and see if they get a bunch of interest.. and when they get not enough interest.. they will $hitcan the prototype. If it was so easy to make these and sell them, why hasn't anyone else done one already??
I hope I"m wrong..and they make one. it would be a nice way to add a bit of power to our cars, and not make the car sound bad, for not too much money.
i found some sound clips on youtube of TL's with an RV6 jpipe and they sound nice. not raspy or ricey.. just a tad more aggressive/deep.
here is one. given the TL-S engine and ours are so similar.. this is probably a good idea of what an RL would sound like with this pipe.
not bad. it sounds a bit louder, a tad deeper, more aggressive.. but it doesn't have that raspiness that so many full blown exhausts have... I would enjoy the RL having a slightly more aggressive note, but don't want my luxury sedan to sound like a wanna be race car.

I think most of us want a slightly more aggressive tone except for the people who just want rice or grandpa I've developed products with RV6 before. If he says he's going to make something 9 times out of 10 he has. I worked with him on test fitting prototype pre cat deletes on my Accord which is now the precat delete for all new Acuras and Honda V6s. Took a while to get the bugs worked out but he got the cats from an idea to production in a year.
This jpipe on the otherhand is easier to create and already has numerous designs to go off of. The 4G TL SHAWD jpipe lay out is extremely similar to ours and with Rich already having that being sold, it probably wasn't hard to tweak to create prototype.
And noone has made a jpipe for us because A. The RL WAS the only AWD Acura there was besides the MDX (two vehicles not often modified), and B. every other thread on here you see RL owners bashing exhaust products talking about the RL wasn't made to have an exhaust note or go faster. So with that lack of interest shown, noone would want to waste their money trying to create a product that doesn't look like would sell.
I bet you when Rich starts selling these and the other two vendors see these selling they will hop on too.
I had the jpipe on my Accord (with a similar 3.5 as the RL) and it responded EXTREMELY well to the jpipe. I gained 20whp and 20wtq (of course FWD HP) and in some places more tq than that. Its the best exhaust mod for these cars (in my opinion)
Also its hard for the jpipe to change the exhaust tone that much because it doesnt remove any mufflers or resonators. The only thing it could possibly remove (most RV6 jpipes do) is the 3rd cat which is for start up emission purposes and to get the ULEV II cert. Removing that will not throw a code, cause you to fail a sniffer emissions test, or change the exhaust note more than a dB or two.

I will believe it when I see it. Excuse the skepticism, but we have been here before. I would be interested in hearing from the vendor. Don't want more BS vaporware threads here.
Please don't criticize those who don't know what the RV6 pipe is. Not everyone goes to the TL forum.

A dyno would be hard seeing as though the SHAWD system doesnt like to be on the dyno. Its act all haywire from what people have said. The only way to get an accurate one would be to disconnect the driveshaft like neuronbob(I think) and a few others have done. Thats a bit much and you still would only get FWD HP #s. I'd expect 8-15 whp and wtq throughtout the powerband maybe a little less or more seeing as though every other FWD Honda V6 has gained 10-15whp and 10-17wtq from this. I saw the picture of the RV6 Jpipe RL ChiTown got and its GLORIOUS! I will be ordering one as soon as I here back from Richie. Funds are on standby.
