RL Wood Shift Knob

Does anyone know if the 09-11 RL Wood shift knob will fit an 05-08 RL ?

If I understand correctly, the MMC RL's shifter has a button to move out of park. I don't know how this jives with the 2G. Also, it has a sort of boot.

I also like the look of the newer shift knob.... i wonder if it can be made to fit there even if it means disabling the button.

It might thread on, but then you'd have buttons that do nothing. Isn't goofy stuff like that reserved for cars with neon lights under them, or perhaps a coffee can on the exhaust?
