RL Windshield Replacement Options
The crack on my windshield is getting larger and alas I'm gonna have to part with the original and put in something else.
Searching the site I found several threads, and decided why not group them all. Maybe a mod can help.

One post by Stevieray was mentioning that for the KB1 (2005-2008) there was no aftermarket windshield that's to specs. That's quite surprising. And I wonder if he said KB1 coz he knows there is for the KB2 (2009-2012)?
I will also include below a post from the Legend website, it contains helpful pointers.
My summary of all the research is the following:
The manufacturer for the KB1 is listed as Asahi, and KB2 AGC. They are the same company. The unit on my car is Made in Japan, as I suspect everybody's since the RL is made in japan and that's the closest factory the one in Tokyo.
For the KB2, I am finding in the Canadian market what installers are calling 'chinese brands', and Pilkington. AGC is on the system, but no stock. Seems Pilkington suppliers have an upper edge logistically and are channeling theirs better.
Contrary to what many in the posts above wrote, the aftermarket windshield also has an acoustic layer. The price installed is hovering around 510 USD.
At the dealer, it's 1300USD + installation. A good 1500 USD easy. Crazy.
Anyone find different supplier brand that is good?
I am considering buying the moldings from the dealer, and finding an installer that will accept being scrutinized while doing the job. Here's the post that had good hints:
I also intend to fix that water leaking problem on the passenger pillar (common RL problem). Any ideas on how to do so are appreciated.

If you're observant and careful enough, you should be able to detect any defects and be able to determine whether or not the glass will be annoying in daily use. If the defects are too close to your line of vision, reject that glass and ask for a new one to be delivered. A reputable shop will have no problem with this.
And, please, do not try and install a bonded windshield yourself. That is a really dumb idea.

Update, AGC doesn't sell to anyone else but car manufacturers.
Anyone has any experience with Pilkington? Any brands tried and recommended?

I believe Asahi is the OE supplier for Acura. Pilkington is OE for BMW as well I think?
Aftermarket glass is definitely available, and they are all comparable in quality. It ultimately boils down to the quality of the installation. I'd focus on vetting the installer

Is that a good idea? Isn't it better to go new even aftermarket?
