I almost bought a new 06 last week for 40K. Depending on your area that may be a little high. Resale is not good on this vehicle. I would say mid 30's.

35-36 is probably what you'll get on a dealer trade. MAYBE 36-39 if you try to sell privately, but you might be sitting on it for awhile.

i agree. 31k is crazy. dealers are in the business of ripping off people on the trade-in. FYI, it was an audi dealer that bid 31k ( thats actually after i got really pissed, he started at 29k)

^ If you are willing to take 36k from a dealer, you may as well trade for 35k. Then, you only have to pay tax on the balance. But if a dealer is really interested to trade for 35k, I bet you can really PUSH them for 36k (pending you are serious on the trade). But just make sure you look at the trade-in and the cost of the new car seperately.

Go private, you will never get true value for a dealership.

HOWEVER, if you get a GOOD trade in offer, then it's worth trading in because you save money on the tax.... not to mention the hassle of finding a buyer.

so with @ tax, if i bought something for 40k and sold my RL for 35k, i only pay tax on the difference 5k?

im thinking of a slightly used Audi S4, a 2005 or 6 with comparable miles is offered @ 40-45k.

Yeah you can buy an 06 RL for $40,000.00 so 31 is not that far off. Maybe 32 or 32.5 but still... RL is softer than Play-doh.

Not CA! Full sales tax on every purchase, new or used. No break for trades. They get you coming and going.
