RL JDM Headlights

I've noticed a few RL owners have JDM Headlights. Now I've seen some for sale and I am in the process of getting a set, but they seem to be missing the oem hid setup as well as the motor.

I want to know from the people who know or that have already purchased, if they came with or without, and whether you were able to utilize the setup from your USDM/OEM lights?

That's not right. The only differences between JDM and USDM are the clear corners and the passenger/driver cut-off and calibration are switched. The motor and HID are still there.

If you look at the photo below from a JDM headlight, it is missing the motor and the HID. My question is to anyone that knows, or that has purchased JDM headlights, if anyone has had to transfer their motor and HID setup from their pre-existing OEM USDM Headlight assembly. If you did, was it a simple plug and play, or is there any difficulty with this kind of swap.

The seller chopped that piece and sold the other parts. Many people have swapped here, and no one has ever reported adding parts. JDM comes with HID and AFS motors.

Thank you sir, that's the confirmation I was looking for. If all goes well I should have a source for more headlights.

Wish me luck.

What do you mean with "...passenger/driver cut-off and calibration are switched"

^ The driver side cutoff is lower as to not blind oncoming traffic. Since the roads and driver positions are opposite in Japan(right hand drive), the headlight configurations are opposite as well.

I did not know there is such a function.

NExt time when I come to U.S.A. I think it's better to remove my lights and bring with me...

Everybody wants what they do not have.

I'm sure you would have no problem finding someone to swap their headlights for yours! Highly desirable.

I'm sure you will have many takers to trade with you if that's the case. If you come near NY, I'm your guy.

I'm not sure anyone knows about it around here...

So, how are their height adjustment carried out?

They should not be equal, huh?

Hmmmm, let me think.

If you give one set of USDM headlights, 1 set of Acura grill, 1 ebony Acura airbag, 4 Acura center hub caps, one iPhone 5s, one Sony PS4, one 4K Tv; I may think to swap

I'm the salesman...

Turk, IIUC, the cutoff comes from a shield behind the lens. The headlights are aimed the same, but the outside shield is different.

Mine came directly from Japan, rather than through a third party vendor. All I received was the empty headlight shells. You'd need to transfer all the working components from your old headlights to the new ones.

1) Rubber grommets around DRL area.
2) Turn signal bulbs/sockets.
3) Parking light bulb/sockets.
4) Cover for the AFS motor, some headlights may come with this.
5) HID ballasts, ignitors and HID bulbs.
6) Low beam projector cover.
7) Rubber gasket around the HID ballast.

As others have mentioned, JDM headlights or EDM headlights will have cut off made for RHD cars where as USDM headlights have cut off made for LHD cars.

You can swap the JDM cut off shields within the projectors with the USDM ones, requires opening the headlights though.

EDM headlights have the same cut off like USDM but UK models are the same as JDM.
So, maybe you can find some from Germany.

This was the answer I was looking for. Thank you.

Now, will I be able to use my AFS motor on the new lights, and is it a plug/play kind of thing?

Sorry, no link as I acquired mine through a friend in Japan who bought them through a local auto recycler.

All this effort and expense to eliminate the useful amber side markers? I'm with Turk, I prefer the USDM.

U forget the clear lenses that provide slightly better light output and sharp cutoff line, not to mention the beautiful hue flicker that usdm frosted lenses washout.

To each his own but the bulb is the same, I don't like a sharp cut-off and the beautiful hue is not only BS but can easily be fixed with alcohol.

I can double check but I am pretty sure the JDM headlights have the fresneled lenses for projectors as well.

JnC's comment states that all of the major hardware is there; it's only the safety/protective elements (covers/grommets) that need to be transferred.

That set you found would surely work with some extensive rebuilding, but they shouldn't be even a 1/4 of the price. You will likely have to crack them open too.

UPDATE: So, I installed the headlights this weekend and ran into an issue. The USDM directional/ turn signal light and bulb dont fit in the designated opening on the JDM headlight.

Anyone else with these headlights encountered this issue? Anyone know what light socket and bulb combination I can use?
