Replacing Tires on SH-AWD

Anyone know what Acura recommends on changing tires on our vehicle? I know some vehicles are more forgiving than others. Currrently my tires have around 5k on them and the front passenger has some cracks all around the sidewall which is making me very nervous. Will I be ok just changing the front two, or will I have transmission issues in the future?

While we are on the subject, anyone know as far as towing goes what is recommended? Flatbed vs 2-wheels?

Thanks

All AWD vehicles recommend the same diameter tires on all four wheels. However, treads never wear identically, so there is always an allowable margin for error. Typical rule of thumb when sizing tires on a staggered AWD setup is to keep it within 1%.

If the fronts and rears are too far off, you can overheat the transfer case. That said, you will always want your adjacent tires to be as close as possible.

You should always tow with a flat bed.

Nah, I just bought whatever was the best rated Grand Touring All-Season tire on Tire Rack's site but I prefer to change all four at a time. I always use a flatbed if at all possible.

Weren't you on acuralegend.org?

towing: always flat bed.

depends on what kind of tires you have currently. if it's high-mileage grand touring tire, 5k mile means you took less than 10% of tires life. so replacing just 1 with new tire won't affect too much.
For instance, Turanza Serinity Plus has mileage warranty of 80k/75k/50k mile warranty depending on speed rating
however, if you are running tires like Potena RE-71R or RE-11, you can get anywhere from 5k~15k miles out of them depending on how and where you drive. so putting 1 new tire will have big impact.

Yeah I was just on tire rack looking at the Yokohama AVID ENVigor or the Kumho Ecsta 4X II.

I don't know the exact model I currently have (some kind of Michelin). Anyways, my friend who's a mechanic was checking the RL out when I first purchased, and was telling me stay away from these tires in the future because they are garbage. I know he knows his stuff, but I didn't think I'd need to replace tires due to cracking after a year.

Yah I'm still on acuralegend.org, but acurazine guys are more helpful when it comes to the RL (IMO).

Did you buy tires brand new or how old are they? Sounds like ozone cracking but if they only have 5k miles as you say and bought recently and only that tire there should be some manufacturers defect warranty on them. No?

Where did you buy them? Assuming it's a reputable vendor, I would go back and talk to them. They can either rule out a safety concern or they can help you with a warranty claim. BDoggPrelude is in the tire business. You could also PM for advice.

Looks like the place you bought them from sold you an "old" new tire.

Meaning the tire was manufactured years? ago and has been sitting for a while until you bought them
