Replacing the R. FR. Bumper Protector

It's the body color/chrome trim strip at each corner of the 2005 RL.

Part of mine broke off and the remaining piece is on there pretty snug.

Anyone ever replace this strip? If so, any tricks to removing it?

Pops (pulls) right off and the new one will snap right in.

I hit some road debris and that piece came disconnected. Dealer pushed it right back in place. Fighting with insurance now on getting it replaced. I'll do it myself if they don't approve.

There are small wingnut like fasteners on the backside of the bumper cover.

From a previous discussion on these trim pieces:

Get a flat head screwdriver and a cloth. Use the cloth over the screwdriver to protect the paint. Pry the piece from the outside first and work your way to the center of the car.

The chrome piece on each corner is is replaceable? If so thanks for posting about this I also have a 2005 Acura RL and the chrome on mine is starting to become chipped, thought I was going to have to replace the whole bumper!

That's what we are talking about. Start on the outside and work in.

I had to take them off to remove the fog light assembly there is a screw behind the the mouldings. It's easy to take them off after you take off the bumper. Remove the screw that's holding it in place from the inside and then just snaps right out. You can also squeeze the wings so it comes of smoothly it's really easy all you need is common sense (not sayin that you dont have any, just saying)and your good. Now the bumper on the other hand takes a little more time and effort but it's not hard to remove.

The service manual does not say anything about a screw. You should not have to remove the bumper IIRC.

I've replaced two of mine... front and back. It's a five minute job, even though Acura charges too much for the part.

I used a dish towel to cover a flat blade screwdriver, slid it behind the piece that remained, tapped it with the heel of my hand and off it came. As others have mentioned, there's a small tab at one end of the trim piece. That end goes into a hole at the grill end of the slot where the trim piece fits. IOW, you can't install it wrong. Slide the tab into the hole, push the trim piece into the holes, working your way around the bumper, towards the wheel. acuraoemparts.com charged me $90 plus shipping.
