replacing door handle

need some advice:
my driver's side door lock does not work 100% and dealr says they can replace. I have seen other people report the problem, but does a new handle completely fix the issue? I am trying to weigh plus/minus of the annoyance versus dealer tearing into my door and replacing handle.
Currently works 80% of time, but when it doesn't, it is pretty annoying. I have tried standing in various positions thinking location of FOB is important as well as trying the "palm" technique someone suggested, but cannot come up with a technique that works 100%. Also, the non-working times have no correlation to when I wash/wax car. If someone has a fool-proof technique, would like to avoid replacing handle.

How annoying. I have to say my doors work like magic. I have no idea how they do it. Very subtle sensors.

I would have them fix it, personally. Stuff like that should simply work.

Replace it; it should work perfectly.

I have zero problems.

I had both my door handles replaced Friday for failure of the dimple locking after the car was washed. Both doors lock fine now even after spraying the door handles with a garden hose. With the original door handles, I could cause the dimple locking to not work for a day or two after spraying with a hose.

My driver side door works 70-80% of the time. I am calling the dealer to get it fixed. This is an awesome technology. Getting into my wife's TL makes me quickly note how great the RL is. I have to unlock the car, start the car with a key, etc...The RL has some very awesome creature features....

I agree that this is a very cool feature, and the "dimples" on the RL door are a lot cleaner than the rubber buttons on, say, the M35. (I'm currently shopping to replace my '03 MDX and considering lux sedans versus SUVs.)

Of course, after reading the thread on back-up cameras, I'm a little surprised no one in this thread is jeering at the keyless entry system as a worthless gimmick since "they have these little metal things you keep in your pocket and can slide into the door to open it."

This is funny. When i open the driver's side passenger door to get my jacket, etc.. then close the door, i cannot lock the car with the driver's door handle. I can lock it from the passenger's door handle. Very strange. Can't wait to get it replaced.
