Replacement of Shift Knob
#3
I have tried to twist the knob off (not to replace it but just to see if it would come off) and the damn thing is on there TIGHT. I am afraid to really yank it because it doesnt seem like it will come off and I fear if I really put some muscle into it I am gonna break it.

Have no fear Rob L. It is on tight but a solid counterclockwise turn will put the knob in motion and then you just easily keep turning until it comes off. I really like my wood knob, just wish the metal trim was matte to match the matte of the shift grate or both chrome. Has anyone heard anything lately about wood trim kits that were supposed to be out soon from aftermarket??

does the oem one really have that acura logo on the top? The shift knob looks nice but the aucra logo looks cheesy.
I still think I am gonna break the damn thing if I go to turn it off Dunno why it had to be on that tight. I mean it is REALLY tight.

I bought the Acura RL wood knob, Honda P/N 08U92-SJA-200. It has no threads inside, so it appears to be a pressure fit.
Has anyone changed the shift knob on a 2005 RL and found threads?
I see in this thread that some think the knob threads off/on- but there are no threads! I'd sure hate to break the shifter on my new '05 RL. Yey want to use this beautiful new wood shift knob (bought at a great discount from: http://www.acuraparts247.com/sunnyside/jsp/home.jsp )

Thanks for the extrra help. I found another site (with great prices) that had the Acura installation notice for the shift knob. Yes, it does screw on/off. Here's the site I found as the one you know of seems to not work for me. Might help someone else who is nervous to really twist to get off their shift knob.

Got my wood shift knob off ebay as well. It is a threaded knob.. threads are way up there. When I went to remove my old knob, it was super tight. Scared the H out of me trying to get it off, but after a couple of turns, it loosened up and all was well. The wood knob makes a big difference.

just picked up the wood knob - i too wish it had a matte finish metalk instaed of chrome....
looking inside hole, i see a screw - i bet that you can just unscrew the wood frpom the metal, do the same with the leather knob, swap 'em out, and, voila, w3ood knob with matching matte finish metal.....
anybody else notice, or try this??????

I think they applied some loc-tite or some other apoxy when putting the shifter knob on (a white material came out of the shifter as I was removing unscrewing it). Otherwise, putting on the new wooden shifter was a snap. I can't believe dealers charge $30 to do this (unless you have arthritis...)!
