Recommendations for transmission fluid....

I have already posted in several threads that I have a noise in my transmission that is extremely annoying. I have already changed the fluid once using Honda DW-1 fluid. I recently got the car and according to carfax the tranny fluid has been changed several times at Acura dealers before I got the car with 106k miles on it.

Now I doubt changing the fluid is going to have any effect on the noise. My best guess is the noise is the gears themselves. The final drive gear is my assumption. Sometimes gears can wear in an odd way causing a noise like the one I have. No fluid or additive will change that. With that said I could be wrong and the noise could be something else. So I am going to do another drain and fill at my next oil change.

Should I use:

1. Honda DW-1
2. Honda Z1 - there is still some available online
3. Redline or another aftermarket fluid

The only fluids that I will only use OEM for are Honda PS and transmission fluid. Honda transmissions are generally one of the weaker parts of the car, and I can't justify trialing something with that in mind especially when you can find OEM fluid for the same price as aftermarket.

The OGs of the 2G RL forum had quite a few grumblings when Honda switched to DW1. A lot preferred Z1 for various reasons. Were they just being s, stubborn to accept change for something that already worked? Probably, but the general feedback is that Z1 is "better".

I received DW-1 instead of Z1. The order clearly shows Z1 but of course they said it has been replaced with DW-1. I am aware of that but I didn't want DW-1.

I guess I will be changing the fluid with DW-1 a few times since I bought 8 quarts.

I was surprised to hear you "found" it. Don't bother returning it as you will just end up in the same place. The stuff works just fine.

I agree. I will just do the normal drain and fill with my next oil change which happens to be due now.

I know the issue I am having will not be fixed by a fluid change. I was hoping Z1 might help but deep down I knew it wouldn't. As far as I can tell the only fix is to replace the transmission. Unfortunately I am not at that point that I am willing to spend the @$4000 to do so just over an annoying noise. Which it is very annoying. LOL

The transmission shifts perfectly and responds as it should even while manually beaten the heck out of it. I assume the noise is within in the gears and just that, a noise. Too bad because the car is almost 100% perfect at this point besides the shocks I still want to replace.

I guess I mine as well replace the trans fluid again since I have it and hope for the best. I know it won't help so the next step is to keep an eye out for a 2009 model and swap over all the stuff I replaced on this one. LOL I am all about A/C seats!
