Has the ignitor ever failed in a RL?

I got my letter a while ago saying parts are coming this fall. Not in a rush to park the car and drive a dull rental

Rl09, call a different dealer. Some dealers let you keep your car.

Free car, free miles is the way I see it. Granted I just got new tires, a new timing belt, an oil change AND the diff and transfer fluid swapped. It was ready to go and now it's sitting...

 

They also reconfirmed (unofficially) that nothing's happening before Nov-Dec.

 

Not worried about putting miles on, she's got just over 240k KM..


Just did a quick search on this recall, its only deadly "IF" the airbag goes off. So just don't hit anything right?

So stateside they are saying summer, Canucks is December... Are they really gonna pay for rentals for this long??? I mean, a grand a month times however many of us there are has to be a sh*tload of money for them to not be working day and night to crank these parts out quick...

EDIT: I haven't read of any failures involving the RL specifically...

 

That's the concern I have with my local dealer. A co-worker who also has an RL is friends with the service manger at our local dealer. I'm waiting to hear back from him on what will be done as far as a rental. I do not want to be given a Economy or Intermediate rental and I do not want my car sitting on the dealer's property waiting months for the necessary work to be done.

 

My local dealer said they do NOT want to store cars on their lot. Which is fine by me as I would rather park it in my garage. They gave me a voucher which provides a rental car at the same/similar level as the RL.

 

I was given a new Chevy Malibu as a rental today. Decent car but I absolutely hate the auto stop function, and it doesn't handle as well as the RL. Also, I am keeping the RL in the garage at home rather than at the dealership outside parkng lot to keep the UV rays from damaging the dash.

 

Acura of Peabody (MA) were very helpful. My RL is at home and they weren't even concerned about having the exact mileage to write onto the disclaimer. They drove me to Enterprise who then gave me a Chrysler 200. OK car, but way too small rear legroom. It was the only car available, so I took it. (I drove around the building on the way out and all they had was a pickup truck and a Ford Focus.) Ent. guy apologized for the lack of inventory but encouraged me to call on Friday and/or Monday afternoons to check inventory. Also said they'd be happy to switch out the 200 with something else at any Ent. location. He said that his branch normally avg's 90 cars out at any one time, but since Takata they average 130. Will report back with results.

 

Finally driving a car worth driving for the next few months.

 

They adjusted on that. I called Acura Canada and they make you sign a waiver that you won't drive it, and write down the kilometers.

 

Dang, how'd you get hooked up with a "premium" car? Its a fight to get me a full size right now. They say that my dealer is only paying $35 a day for the rental which is their economy size car. SMH

 

Enterprise is having a huge issue with vehicle availability because of this recall. It's driving rental prices up. The lonher people wait to get a car, the more unlikely you are to get a better car. That's my theory

 

Acura Canada makes u sign a waiver not to drive the car and records the mileage and says if u drive the car you are liable for the rental cost!

I said i have to rust proof my car in June, they didn't wanna hear of it; u drive, u lose.

I feel its exaggerated.

I can only rustproof in the summer. There is a difference between driving a car full time or even 50% of the time, or driving it to be rustproofed. All they should be caring about is not being liable.

 

The whole premise of Honda giving a rental is that we don't feel safe driving the car...

 

We still drove it until they issued the recall, agreed to give out rentals and approved the rental. Not to mention they expect you to drive it back and forth to the dealership.

But I can't do my summer rustproofing, and if the airbag is changed in December, i'll drive my car next winter.

One has to remember we didn't cause the recall, and our lives can't be disrupted or dictated-to because someone is fixing the problem they caused.

And all I'm asking is to be able to do its rustproofing on time.


I think its important to separate when one is offered a cookie cause one is a great customer, or when one is offered a cookie cause the offerer caused a temporary diabetes.

 

I got my dealer to pay for a BMW X3 rental. Granted it's a base model, but I'm happy to drive this until late summer when they estimate the parts will arrive. All billing goes directly to Acura. Enterprise did say that they will call me once a month to get the mileage and in case it's necessary they may request me to take it to WheelWorks where they have them do oil changes.

 

RL09, didn't the recall notice state that it was unsafe to drive the car until it was taken care of? That shows good faith and releases them from liability IMHO. You could have the car towed to the dealer, and I bet they would reimburse you.

That said, who made you sign the waiver/affidavit? Call them up and discuss the issue with them.

 

Nothing's signed yet. gonna get the door fixed first. I did call them, lady was quite rude.

But rustproof i can't do before June, so I'm gonna take it then anyway and get it done and they are welcome to sue me.

 

why can't you rustproof before June?

Shows my ignorance but I thought rust proofing has all but gone now from dealers vocabulary or maybe this is a northern thing the rush to the Ziebarts and the like has all but dried up locally.

I would expect if ambient temps are above 50degrees you should be ok much more critical is prep the applicator does to accept the treatment.

 

Yup rental prices are through the roof right now. Here in Texas a sub-compact (economy) is going for $200 per day and that's because of all the hail and events like Wrestlemania and NASCAR happening recently.

I work for Hertz and availability is very limited right now. We are even having to rent out some lightly damaged cars just to put customers in a vehicle.

 

We're at 40F right now. And yes, they throw salt all over here the only ones who don't rustproof are those leasing and not planning on buying their vehicles.

 

I didn't sign any such waiver that I wouldn't drive my RL. My common sense tells me Acura has absolved itself of liability by offering and paying for a rental car. I'm sure they would also have paid for a tow to/from my home, but I didn't bother with that.

I still plan to occasionally drive the RL just to keep everything in good order. You can't just let a car sit for 6 months. But there is indeed a "greater than zero" chance that the airbag can shoot out shrapnel if it deploys.

 

Just got my rental the other day and they put me in a damn hyundai elentra from Ent i hate it plus it is dirty af the lady at Ent said that some ppl already turned in their loaners due to parts coming in early and getting there fix wonder if its true im definitely going back to see what i can swap this pos car for...

 

 

I'm curious to see what others are getting for a alternative transportation due to the airbag recall? I read people getting anywhere from a Hyundai Elantra to a BMW X1.

When Enterprise finally called me I had 4 choices to choose from;

Hyundai Accent
Volkswagen Jetta
Chrysler 200
Hyundai Sonata

I choose the Sonata because of the interior room. Besides it being a base model like most rentals, its actually not a bad car. It has a lot more room then the RL, but at the end of the day it is still a Hyundai.

 

When I first went to enterprise, they offered me cars in the same list as yours... I said hell no, I'm not driving those shit boxes (in more apporiate words of coure / first world problems) lol..

The supervisor felt bad since I'll be driving this car for months and told me that he'll give me a free upgrade to either a Cadillac ATS or a Dodge Challenger... I chose the Challenger becaue I missed driving a Sports car....

In CA, every 30 days you have to go renew the rental contract, I brought the Challenger in yesterday because I had it for almost a month.. Didn't want to keep it because the 8spd tranny/gas mileage/blind spots was crappy. I asked for the Cadillac, but they didn't have one. I'm leaving for work tomorrow morning for a week so they gave me a Camry Sport for the time being. I'll be switching it out when I get back...

The freaking Camry is soo bad. I got a base Camry as a loaner car a few months back and the Camry Sport is just as bad (it looks better though). I don't know why someone would buy this over an Accord or Sonata.

 

I'm hesitant towards doing this just because I'm not sure I want my car to sit for months on end. Unless they plan to give me a damn nice car..

 

Usually with a recall you'll be able to get an Acura loaner and not enterprise unless they run out. Did anyone get a loaner from Acura?

 

Local Acura dealer gave me purchase order from Honda to pick up car at Enterprise Rental. Started off with Ford Expedition 8 passenger - windsheild cracked and replaced with Explorer Limited - those turbos work on the Fords - regardless some reports say as long as 2 years.....enjoying the ride.

 

No they won't do that. A loaner for a couple of days maybe a week ok. But for a recall with so many cars, and a few months wait, dealer would be out of cars.

They're all going with rent a car.

So I called Enterprise today and made my res, the dealership I am working with only deals with midsize or fullsize. I'm assuming since our cars are fullsize they'll put me in a fullsize so I told them to find me a Dodge Charger..... R/T. Said if I'm gonna be stuck with this damn thing for several months I better be able to enjoy it, their response was "We completely agree" although I don't think they picked up on what I meant by "Enjoy it"

 

Yup. That's why what my dealer said too. They need their regular loaner cars for the service dept. The good news is, if you have an RL, chances are they will put you into a decent loaner.
