rear sunshade rattles

Does everyone have the problem with the rear sun shade rattling when it is UP? I took it to the dealer and they said the rattle is becuase if the joint on the shade, and that this is an inherent rattle becuase of the design. I see where the shade joints meet and I can see why it is rattling, but this explanation seems kind of weird to me. This means all RL sunshades rattle. Could this be true?

No rattles when my rear sunshade is up. I've had my 07 RL for about two months.

Had this issue, complained to the dealer, they put some additional felt/padding in the area. Rattle is 90% gone now.

Mine rattled when it was i the down postion. Two trips to the dealer finally got it fixed. They used felt strips where the top shade bar sits in the cradle.

All of you must be hearing something other than the rear shade rattling around, because when my dealer called Acura tech support for help with resolving this problem in my '06, they claimed my complaint was the first they had received.

I had the felt pads added to the cradle, but otherwise mine is quiet.

On a side note, I saw an RL today that had the rear sunshade with an Acura Logo graphic in the mesh. It had a reflective quality...way cool! I have seen this graphic stuff on pool screens and ads on bus windows. This must be aftermarket...anyone else see it or know from where it is offered?

and you believed them?

Mine has been adjusted twice and replaced once and it still rattles. My problem is the spring tension against the glass - the wheels don't touch the glass so every bump on the freeway makes the wheels slap the rear glass.

db22....I thought it was obvious I was joking since the sunshade rattle has been around since 2005. The dealership tech said the rattle in my car is coming from the loose wheels in the system. The help line claimed ignorance to any noise issues associated with the sunshade. The rattle is annoying but not always there. I hear it mostly over broken pavement.

Ok I am the idiot. I saw the hinge and assumed that was a logical click. what I hear is more of a CLICK not a rattle. When I go over any thing bumpy it moves and goes "click click"...

I talked to acura customer service, they called me for some other reason, and they told me to take it to another dealer. They also told me not to tell the new dealer that the previous dealer said it was by design. What is funny is just because they don't have a TSB on an issue, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I remember having my 01 CLS replaced by the california lemon law because they coulnd't seem to fix my transmission. They had no clue what was wrong with the tranny. Later they extended the warranty on a few models to 10 years and figured out a fix to prevent the damage. I don't know why when they told me it is by design I just OK. I wasn't in the mood for a fight. My car is only 3 months old, so maybe I'll wait a while before I get more aggressive about getting it fixed. Now I am going to go back to them and tell them this clicking is unacceptable.. Maybe in a few months though...

Sometimes I have considered just removing the whole assembly and being done with it. It's a nice feature, but would prefer silence over the rattle and arguing with Acura.

taking the car back today

I am finally taking the car back to the dealer for the progressively worse "as designed" rattle in my rear sunsharde. This time I am not going to take the As designed BS. Last time I wasn't feeling very scrappy, but this time I am going to get it fixed. I had my 01 CLS replaced under the california lemon law, without an attorney (I did it by myself), so I should be able to get a silly window shade rattle fixed.

The only places I can see it may rattle when raised up would be either the hinges or simply the posts tapping against the rear window on bumpy roads.

When I raise my shade I do hear a 'click' as the hinge locks the posts straight. But no rattle from the hinges themselves. On a bumpy road, I hear an occaisional tapping of the shade posts against the window where the rollers are....but it is very minimal sounding and that should be expected.

As mentioned earlier, my dealer did put felt in the cradle where the shade rests when retracted and that eminated my minor rattle.

my shade is still rattling. They replaced it and now are going to replace the deck. Has anyone had their deck replaced? Now the rear rattles when the shade is down and when it is up...

My shade, when it is up does not even touch the window so over every bump it taps the window. Dealer has looked at it 3 times but still no solution. I use it all the time - night to reduce headlights behind me and day for the sunshine.
I also wish it would go back up after selecting reverse.

Mine may tap the window too, but I don't know since I am always driving. Mine too is clearly not touching the window either.

I am worried about them replacing the rear deck.. The part is in, but I have until 10/31 and have been hesitant about taking it in...

When the car was new, it was spring loaded against the glass but it seems to weaken or change its alignment.
Please let me know if your sheild has pressure against the window, just touches or does not touch at all.
Thanks for your help.

it does meet the window.

Actually the shade in the up position does touch the window at the top of both sides and is really nice and spring loaded..

It could be some other rattle coming from the area, and not necessarily the shade. I don't know. I know that others have had rattles in the rear area near the window/speaker/sunshade. Originally when the shade was down, there was no rattle and it only occurred in the up position, so I thought it must be the shade. They shade was replaced and now I hear rattles in the down and up position.

They told me maybe the CLIPS are bad and they want to replace the clips.

If anyone ever has any success with rear-shade rattles in up position and down position, I would love to hear how it is fixed. Acura has been unsuccessful in fixing mine, and basically has made it worse. They replaced it like 3 times during 1 service visit and told me it still may rattle but you probably won't hear it unless you are in the back seat.. Right.. I hear it over ever small bump or surface change in the road, when it is in the up position. Also, I don't know if it is the shade housing or the speaker housing, but there is a rattle from the rear when the shade is down.. I am not too happy with the design of the shade. They keep telling me they tested other New Rls and they too have the same rattle, so I find it hard to believe that they cannot fix it..

In my situation they basically injected foam in between the panel gaps. According to the SM, they injected quite a bit. That was over a year ago and it's been quiet ever since.

Now I rarely if ever drive with the sunshade up. I have heard that causes the linkages to loosen and rattle. Then again, I have tinted my windows (35% sides 15% rear) so there really isn't a need.

My dealer lined the cradle with felt tape - solved my shade down rattle. I don't have a shade up rattle.

My car had the sunshade TSB performed when the car was new. Now with the weather getting cooler , the sunshade rattles in the down position. Will have to taken it in soon, only a few months left on the warranty.

Yes, my RL is pissing me off. I've taken it in 3 times to address this rattlling noise coming from the rear deck.

i can take a finger and tap on the rear deck, and can replicate this noise. Seems like a piece is loose where the rear shade is.

Also, I suspect the "bose" grill might also be kinda loose, since whenever I turn up the bass, it seems to rattle where the sub-woofer is.

One more thing I've noticed is that when I press on my headliner, right behind my sunroof, it makes a popping noise as well.

Does anyone else also have rattling in the front windows, when they are partially down and car is moving???

thanks.
