Random Shaking on High Way

Some of you may recall my complaints of car shaking on the high way in the past. It has not gotten better and I can't find a common factor that may cause the shake. However, I did notice the car shakes less in the warmer weather. I have taken the car back numerous times in the past to the dealer and they couldn't figure what is causing the shake. Matter of fact, some of the times the shake would not be reproduced.

This morning I was accelerating onto the high way and I noticed the transmission shifted hard into 5th gear, and right away, the car started to shake. My Starbucks cup was rocking back and forth in the cup holder and I could feel it in my seat and a little in the steering wheel. For whatever reason, I shifted the car into neutral and the shake disappeared. After about 5 seconds, I shifted the car back into D and the shake did not return.

What do you guys think it could be? Do you think my tranny is on it's way out?

Have you ever had a transmission service? 3x3 drain and fill?

Could it be the center bearing in the drive shaft is just obliterated... and completely bypassed the whistle phase? That might explain the randomness... it just takes a little something to throw the drive shaft out of balance. Just a thought. If you're not feeling it a ton in the steering wheel it seems unlikely that it's a suspension, warped rotor type thing...

@oo7, I am not sure if that's been done. I have around 80K on the RL so I'd assume it was done at one point? Is that a part of the regular maintenance?

@mitch, I had the shaft replaced about a year or so ago due to the whirling noise. The brakes are three months old, so not sure if there's anything else that can cause this.

The manual states the transmission service should be completed at 60k miles and then 30k miles afterward. I personally think 60k miles for the first change is way too long. If it hasn't been done, it is way overdue. If it has been done, you are about to come up on the next service. I would be proactive and do the service ASAP. If done correctly, it can only help.

Are you implying my Starbucks cup was shaking because it's over caffeinated?
