Question on removing trim pieces...

My wife just purchased for me the new Passport 9500i Radar detector. I am thinking of purchasing the remote unit and installing it just above the non-ashtray. My question is, has anyone removed any of the trim pieces on the centerstack? Specifically the aluminum pieces on each side? Do they just snap off? It looks like I'll have to remove those in order to run the wires.

Unscrew the shift knob. Then pull up the plastic trim piece around the gearshift (Not the little silver colored piece that the gear letters/numbers are inside, but the larger plastic piece around that). Pull up from the back part closest to the cupholder area first, then the front closest to the ashtray and silver trim pieces. You'll probably want to unhook the 2 seat warmer cables and the charger port. When you have the plastic piece off, just pull the silver trim pieces straight out. They aren't aluminum, they are plastic, but spray painted to look like metal. Don't worry about using a little bit of force, but they aren't too hard to pull out.
