Quality Performance Upgrades for RL

Hey guys,

I tried doing a search here but I couldn't really come up with any answer. My buddy just got a '09 BMW 335i and installed an expensive Vishnu Performance Chip... lets just say the fast got ALOT faster.

I was wondering what we can install in our 2nd gen RL's to make it quicker? Are there performance chips, software, or timers? I saw some stuff online for like $20 but I would NEVER put something that cheap anywhere near my ride.

Any ideas? Brands? Thanks in advance.

online for 20$? is that that ebay nonsense?

well the only thing I read about was the AMUSE CHIP:

1) its about 3grand
2) Probably not compatible with the USDM RL

Not far below this thread:

Please continue comments there. Thanks!

JET Performance makes a module for the RL but no one here has tested it yet. The only performance upgrades are the usual bolt-ons, in the thread above.

That thread doesn't really touch base with what I was asking. I meant software, chips, timers, etc to increase performance not intakes or exhaust.

As for the Amuse and Jet I will check them out. Thank you!

You can only CHip Turbo cars like the audi's and vw/s.
The 335 is a turbo engin so the chip prolly boosts the turbo..
wait till he has a warrenty issue like his engin or tranny going and BMW refusing to cover it cuz his chip then he will see if it was worth the extra 40HP. My friend pud a ADR?? chip in his VW passat years ago and it made a huge diff.. his tranny went with 16K miles and vw refused to warrenty it cuz the tranny could not handle the extra HP he was told and was out $3k, so good luck voiding his warrenty!

This is entirely not true. Take for example the Unichip or Hondata chips that are out there. There are performance gains to be had by chipping an NA car. The gains however pail in comparison to the gains you'll see when chipping a Turbo/Supercharged car.

Acura ECUs are a tough nut to crack though. In order for a tune to truly work you'll need to completely re-flash the ECU. Without a complete re-flash the ECU will gradually re-tune itself while you're driving.

Just food for thought. :devilgrin

I dont consider 10-15 HP gain anything major, if you can even get that out of a ecu upgrade on a non turbo where as turbos you can get 50HP+ buy chipping it

I don't consider 10-15 HP much either. But saying that you can only chip a turbo car is false.

Very true and I would agree. Other NA cars can gain upwards to 25hp with a chip swap. Take a 928S which gains significantly with just a chip swap.
10-15 HP may not be a world beater but it is still 10-15hp.
