Quality Issue
Quality Issue
Owned my OBP 05' RL from the day it went on sale. I have approximately 43,000 miles on my unit. Had the normal spate of new issue problems from things like software updates to fix minor stuff to major things like replacement of my entire navigation system and replacement of my air conditioner.
Despite all of that I've enjoyed my RL, love it's looks and although not overwhelmed by it's performance can live with it...However, something happened the other day which really disturbed me. I dropped off some clothes at the cleaners and as I opened the door the entire interior door handle assembly simply snapped off! I mean totally and completely broke off. That's right, I'm referring to that massive, leather covered, handle bar...I was stunned!!!
Surely, I assumed, the handle attachments or anchors were made out of metal - but no, it's flimsy plastic. This, or anything similar happen to any other RL owners?

Someone else did report the handle snapping on them also. The RLs doors are very heavy and the handle is too far forward for decent leverage.
I knew it was plastic and tend to grab the handle at the base (where it attaches to the armrest) as opposed to the center of the loop. I agree, however, that this could have been a beefier design & material.
