Potential Buyer

One of my best friends has had a 2003 TL-S, ( had to replace the tranny at 96K) and has been an "Acura guy" for a while, any he is looking at a '06 RL- the Anthricite (please forgive me thats not the code). It has 16K miles, and the warrrenty is void- just curious as to any major issues, any info would be appreciated to warn him of, thanks in advance

Any idea why the warranty was voided at such low mileage?

Why would the warranty be void after 16K miles? 4 years 50K bumper to bumper with a 6 year 72K powertrain is standard. What happened to the car that the manufacturer warranty is void?

Well, he is thinking about buying it from a salvage yard- eastcoastauto.com in Lynchburg, (thaxton VA)- Personal pref on the decision making (buying a car under these circumstances...I believe they are asking 16.8K, and he can have it done for 7-10K wich puts him in it at about 25K with such low milage.) . The car still drives, and the damage is mainly body work. He went and looked at it today, and seems to feel comfortable with it-

Personally, I would run away. Unless he has a very reputable mechanic that can verify the frame is not distressed or malaligned. You can get very good 05 models(virtually the same car) with 30-40K mileage for about the same price, certified with extended warranty. That's the way I would go. Otherwise, an 06 RL is a fabulous car, to answer your original question.

Several members here have posted finding 2005s in the same price range your friend is looking at ($25k). Further, if less than 50k, there's still factory warranty, and if not, you can still purchase Acuracare.

Can't do that with a salvaged car. I'd run away from that, but that's just my personal preference.

Oooh, any trouble with the AWD system, electronics, aluminum body parts and panels, even AC, or Navi/stereo big bucks. I'd think it thru fully, good luck.

Here is an 05 with 37k going for 27.9k

Another 05 with 40k going for 24.5k

Not worth the saved money IMO

Hey guys...JO started this thread for me....I've always had good luck with rebuilds about 4 1/2 years ago I bought my salvage 03 TL-S an I've had great luck with it...I was able to get into it for right at 11.5k so I was thrilled with that deal. After looking at some other used RL's I think you guys are right...I think the only way I would do this deal is if I was able to be in the car ready to roll at $16.9

Thanks and keep the opinions coming b/c I'm looking to do something fairly soon...thanks guys!

I would think twice about it - I owned an 03 TL-S and currently have an 06 RL. The RL is much more "electronically complex" than the 03 TL-S. There are just too many expensive parts of the RL for me to be comfortable with a salvaged car.
