Cool performance chip for RL

I saw this ad on this site, http://www.performancechipsdirect.com/Acura/RL/

I said by installing it , you will gain more horse power, higher mpg... etc. Sounds way too good to be ture for 69 bucks!

Did anyone install any performance chip for their RLs?

i would..

NOT do this. the RL is not a sports car. it is a high end sleeper that cruises down the road not race....

Yeah chances are thats BS. Most true piggback ECU or even flash tunes are several hundred dollars for other vehicles ( I have spent alot on tunes for power in my WRX).

I am however interested in the best fuel mileage possible for my RL and have been looking into options
Open for discussion on ways to achieve best MPG...
(Exhaust?-which one? Intake or K&N filter? Some sort of Engine management???)

I was bored one day and ordered one from ebay. I did not bother installing it but I did tear it up to see what kind of uber technology is hidden inside.

Here is the ebay link for the auction.

and here are the tear-aparts

That is obviously not going to manage anything.

Anyway, if you get this, do take it apart.

honestly, if you're going to test a chip, try this one.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Acura...Q5fAccessories

but you would have to comit to a before and after dyno...then we can all get one or two

037:

Did you go back to them and tell them that they forgot to install all of the parts?

I got back to the seller and said "no performance gain", and seller wanted to hold my hand through the process as I'm obviously doing something wrong.

I've read a lot of the feedback and they are pretty positive. Theres either a huge placebo effect or that thing might actually do something, if only briefly.

either way, I did not feel safe to have it installed.

So...to be 100% accurate, I have no idea if that thing would have done anything on the dyno...but paying $100 to find out if a $25 chip works...no thanks.

yes, I did get my money back even though I tore that thing apart. I think I had to go through PayPal and not seller directly.

I was surprised at the positive feedbacks but if you look at them, they tend to have to do with fast shipping, good communication, etc. and not with any results from the use of the product.

I guess I rather spend my money on a light weight pully instead. That chip looks like bs to me, if there is a "real" chip inside the box instead of 2 wires , who knows if it will mess up the ecu in my rl or not.

I like how they put a pic of a turbo on the outside,... like the resistor inside is gonna make that much difference.

IIRC all this will do is trick your MAF sensor a bit to lean things up a bit...(Hardly the right way to accomplish what you want)

The RL is a luxury car with all that encompasses the phrase so if it made additional cabin noise the magazines would have slayed the car for too much engine noise. I think that Acura struck a good balance in just about every department. Yes, there are better and Yes, they are more money.

technically, the car is it's quiet self until 3k rpm where a beast jumps out. I would routinely rev to 5k without hearing anything special from under the hood.

With the new found ROAR I actually get better mpg as I am more aware of how high I am revving.

I just figured they were battle scars from trying to contain all those unfettered horses under the hood.

at the "chip" picture. What great "German engineering"!

Thanks for taking one for the team, Leo.

lol at the pics.

Just to let you know though things like this generally have even worse affects. ie installing this will probably make the ecu retard timing and therefore no real gains.

If you want some real mpg and power get yourself a piggyback and have it dynotuned. I figure a good tuner should be able to get around 10 hp give or take while still keeping the tune safe enough for a daily driver with no reliability issues.
