P1717 code...

Over the last few months the check engine light came on with code P1717. When it came on the AFS light also came on. After shutting the car off and restarting the AFS light would turn off but the CEL would remain on with the P1717 code stored. It has happened three times. After about three days of cold starts the CEL would turn off on its own. The first two times it happened when putting the car in reverse immediately after starting. The third time it happened after a long drive. When I put it in reverse to back into a parking spot the CEL and AFS lights came on.

The code references the transmission position sensor:

I don't believe I have a battery issue. It is less than two years old and the terminals are tight.

I searched for an answer but I couldn't find a thread saying replacing the transmission range sensor fixed the issue. I believe that is my issue but I was hoping someone here could verify that. Since it happened when putting it in reverse after a long drive I very much doubt the battery is the issue.

I ordered the shift position sensor. Hopefully that fixes the issue for me. I will post again once I get it installed.

P1717

This usually happens if you shift fast, from D to R or vice versa, happens to me few times when I first bought the car, but drive after 40 to 50 miles it goes away.
