OwnerLink question?

When I go to OwnerLink, My Profile, AcuraLink Preferences, Messages to your Onboard Device, I get an invitation to call client services to activate. A few days ago I called ACS and they declined to do anything with this menu setting to show any options for my Acura. At one time I believe this menu showed some options.

I'm wondering whether this is normal and whether or not I should be showing some options in that menu.

I took delivery of my RL on June 4 and have almost 7,000 miles.

Who is your cell phone provider. I have never set up my Acuralink simply because Verizon is not listed on the options list. I think there is a work around for this, but I don't think it is worth the trouble.

You've driven quite a bit since June 4. I bought an 05 Honda Pilot on June 10 and have 4,100 miles, which I though was a lot.

BTW I noticed you live in Mississippi. Where did you buy your RL. I bought my RL in February from Northpark Acura in Jackson, MS.

I'm scratching my head over 1) why my "OwnerLink" option on the internet (not acuralink) appears not to be activated, and 2) why ACS told me that there were certain options there that do not need to be changed as being the reason for what I see when I go to my *ownerlink* options. This doesn't make much sense in my view since the web site invites me to activate "ownerlink." This discrepancy hasn't been explained to my satisfaction...especially since my daily messages stopped suddenly after a call to ACS when they were unable to assist me with setting up my newly purchased and supposedly compatible Razr phone for connecting with datalink.

I'm in the car quite a bit and have been swapping out with my trusty '94 Honda attempting to keep the mileage down on the Acura. The Honda is nearing 455,000 miles and still is most competent and enjoyable to drive.

I'm using Cingular, but *only* because I've been a long time AT&T wireless customer.

I remember your earlier post about getting your vehicle in Mississippi. I'd been considering purchasing a new car for 3 or 4 years and had recently concentrated on dealers in AL/MS/LA because I'm in those States frequently due to family, job and friends. I purchased the Acura from Orr in Shreveport. I have a friend in Louisiana who assisted me with making a final decision, and she helped out by accompanying me on several test drives of the MDX, TL and RL at Orr. She and I both liked the sales person, and my friend had prior positive experience with Orr's service department.

Everywhere I've mentioned "ownerlink" in my previous post, I meant "messages to your onboard device."

My AcuraLink Preferences to manage my messages on Acura's Owners Link is the same as yours as it tells me to call ACS to activate. Well, I called them this morning and they told me that they are working on that section and it should be back with the menu picks to manage your messages in a couple of weeks. The agent also said that in the meantime if there was something I wanted changed that they would do it for me. BTW, I'm still getting the daily AcuraLink tip message and it's going on 8 weeks since I purchased the car and a couple of weeks since I made the changes in the car to get the connection to Acura's data server to work through Cingular.

Is there a possiblity that in one of your calls to ACS for help the agent might have turned off the daily tip message to your car? That is one of the options under AcuraLink Preferences!

I just called (again). This agent said that all of my message options are, in fact, activated and confirmed that the "acuralink preferences" menu is not accessible by the user. He said that my original 32 messages were to arrive on an approximate schedule of one every three days or so for 90 days, and that since mine downloaded once a day, I'm done with daily tip messages. (I must have had some overlap since I believe I got more than 32 messages...and was certainly finding them useful as I got more used to the car!)

I again inquired about the datalink problem with the V3 and the fact that my messages stopped simultaneously with changing the strings in the car. He said that the two are not related and mentioned that later, there could be an update from all the various wireless providers which might result in a download of the latest dialup strings for accessing the datalink feature.

FWIW regarding accessing the datalink feature, if the strings are changed in the advanced setup and subsequently the default is used via using the easy setup, to test the link, the system reverts to whatever the car is shipped with...ie., the advanced strings entered are lost and have to be reprogrammed. I can confirm that reverting to the default settings did not result in additional messages to the car.

Thanks for the input. Thanks also to the other guys on the forum for their input earlier. Perhaps, finally, I can put this particular matter to rest.
