Outside rear-view mirror

Anyone have disassembly/re-assemble instructions for driver's side rear-view mirror? Crunched the "housing set" during parking exit (duh!).

Have parts listing for ordering (Delray), but do not know sequence for removal (position/screws/Torx/etc).

Appreciate any/all info for 2006 RL.

Thank you.

there is a plastic cover inside the car behind the mirror remove that and there should be a few screws remove those and mirror will come off
the glass should come out by pulling very hard you will think its going to break but thats how it comes off

Viewing the parts diagram, I would think the "Housing Set" (pivotable section) should be removable without removing entire assembly from the door. There is a screw in bottom of front section but it's not totally accessible, so far as I can tell, when mirror is in stowed position.

There is a small cover on bottom of housing which appears to be a snap fit, but I'm not sure what access it would provide. (Am cogitating about removing without damage to paint.)

I got an Acura RL shop manual and to my surprise there was not much help on this topic but I took pics of what it does have. There may be more somewhere else in it but it may take me a little while to comb over 2000 + pages.

Ahhh, a shop manual for RL. Is the manual available SOMEwhere? Any URL leads appreciated.

Dealer wants $850+ "must order whole mirror" (which I will NOT accept). Housing assembly is available at about $130 RETAIL in my research. Ability to disassemble mirror is my search. Manual $ certainly is inside my cost variance.

Ideas welcome!

Ray, there may be other vendors out there, but per this one, it appears you can buy the parts seperately per the exploded diagram and price list. Even the entire assembly is $300 less than your dealer quote.

http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/...All&vinsrch=no

I simply GOOGLEd Acura OEM parts.

You are correct. Couple of weeks ago I found the Delray site and viewed the exploded parts diagram. Hoping to NOT remove the complete assembly I've been trying to determine how to release the housing sections. There appears to be a recessed screw on the underside, about half visible when mirror is "stowed". Really don't want to mess with the interior trim on door. Thought a body repair manual might be answer - IF I could find one!

Thanks for your guidance, anytime.

I purchased the Manual on ebay for about 65$ from

http://stores.ebay.com/Faxon-Auto-Li...2BSI%26otn%3D4

I will try to post pics of the door disassembly section sometime this week.

Thanks for lead on manual. Soon as I get past "turkey time" will pursue sourcing. And, any pics or description for housing removal are appreciated.

You can buy a service manual from Helm inc. They also have all kinds of other manuals (owners, nav, electrical, body, etc..) for RL's and Acuras in general.

Thanks for lead. I should have thought of Helm -- bought manuals from them in '60s & '70s.

Appreciate the photos. THANK YOU.
Removal of the mirror face appears in a couple of the pics. Think that's where I need to focus my efforts for removal of the two housing sections. I can't believe the only option offered by Acura dealer is replacement of the ENTIRE unit!

The reason I bought the manual was to figure out how to replace the mirror housing like you because I had a small crack in it. But the manual doesnt show that so I was able to get Acrua to replace both mirrors under warranty because they were loose.

jf... Think you got a DEAL ! Two for one, no less <smile>. Guess I'll wait a month or so - no problem driving, just "looks bad" - and do more research. I've been wondering whether removal of the mirror glass is the first step toward releasing the two housing sections. There's got to be at least ONE screw holding, somewhere.
Again, thanks for your help.

sorry, I wish that manual had more info for you on this....that is why I got it....but I posted everything on the subject so far. I guess acura doesnt deal with replacing the mirror internals and just replaces the entire mirror when even the smallest issues come up.

Like your comment, "I guess acura doesnt deal with replacing the mirror internals and just replaces the entire mirror when even the smallest issues come up." If this was "Acura Healthcare" a broken finger would require replacement of my entire arm <grin>.

My passenger side mirror got loose and having it fixed was the last thing done before my warranty ran out. All the tech did was tighten it back up - no replacement in this case.

They should have replaced the mirror in accordance with the technical bulletin. My dealer told me that it would just come loose again if they tried to tighten it. I would try to find the TB and go back to your dealer before your warranty runs out.

Thanks so much. This was very helpful. $850 for a mirror from the dealership? $150 shipped for a virtually perfect used mirror and acurazine for very helpful DIY info. So what to do with the $600 saved? hmmmm

Just tighten the screws and use lock-tite to help prevent the screws from backing out again. Dearler is full of #%!) a brand new one will become loose again too.
