OT: Electrical wiring question

Wondering if there is anyone with some wiring experience here to help me out. Unrelated to my acura RL, but maybe a tech is on here.

Have an issue with two bulbs, type 74. I can't get them to light in the pictured configuration. Blue is hot and brown is ground. I have tested both sockets as pictured and individually and no light. I have continuity on the ground side and on the blue side, but no continuity between blue and brown, which means no short occurring so that's good. Power source is coming from a car jumper: Red is hot/pos and attached to blue wires, black is ground/neg and attached to brown wires. Could both bulbs and or sockets potentially be bad? Anyway to check the sockets for power with a DMM?

The lights stopped working because of a ground short at a switch on the circuit, that was unfused (caused a small fire and melted the switch). Basically, these lights were dash lights, controlled by a headlight switch. You turn the headlights on, these lights are supposed to come on. Can a socket short out?

Is my wiring right? I think it is, but just need a sanity check.

Thx and sorry for the off topic post.

With the socket connected to the jumpers, what is the voltage between the contacts? (Should be 12V.) Have you tried the bulbs connected the other way? Have you tried doing one socket at a time? Have you tried a known good bulb?

I get 12v between the contacts so socket would appear good. Ive tried the sockets individually, nothing. I dont have any known good bulbs so ill have to order some. Thanks, I think its the bulbs.

Unless you haven't tried the wires or bulbs connected the other way, it's the bulbs.

So you have a good supply and ground, and you have power in the socket.

The last thing is you can run a continuity test on the bulb, but if it was un-fused its likely they are toast.

Make sure you use a fuse when you put them back in. Nothing yells lets party like switches catching on fire in a car.

Yep, adding in line fuse. I had a small fire in my car, headlight switch melted. No major damage. Happened in my 86 911. Quite a few circuits unfused in that car, dont know what porsche was thinking.

Closing the loop, got new bulbs today and everything works. i Didn't think a short would blow both bulbs, but it did.
