Oil Change Warning

Guys,

I'm not really a car guy so excuse my ignorance :-) I recently started getting an Oil Change warning in my 2005 RL after a week or so of getting the "Service Due Now" message. It shows I am 20 miles or so past due for an oil change. I have an appointment this Friday however, I'll probably drive another 50-60 miles before then. Will this be a problem?

may void the warranty?

I would get the oil changed at a service station and reset the reminder myself.
Why let the dealer see that you went over the mileage warning.

Not for only 100 miles over. They won't give him hassle.

Don't worry about it. Think how Acura would respond to the question: Why was the car designed to such low tolerance or margin of safty implied by your voiding of the warranty?

Slightly off-topic.

I'm going to use GM's Oil Life System as an example here. Currently, their system is setup for at least a 3000 mile margin-of-error on oil change intervals suggested by the Oil Life System, though GM recommends changing the oil within 600 miles upon notification. Remember that GM's system allows for a maximum oil change interval of 12500 miles with conventional oil under ideal conditions, and it has been verified by oil analysis that this is possible, as we had a 12650 mile run of Havoline 5w-30 posted on BITOG (Oil Analysis) and it showed plenty of life remaining.

A GM engineer who was originally part of the team that developed the oil life system told me that back in the day when they did the initial validation testing for the monitor (remember back then, the maximum drain interval was 7500 miles), they'd often run the oil for TWO oil lives before changing and testing.

On the C5 Corvette. Maximum was 10,000 miles until 2001 and then was raised to 15,000. Of course the Vette required synthetic oil.

You'll be fine. Most people are overdue by 1k+ just because they don't know jack shit about cars and it's causing damage slowly. Don't worry 100 miles is nothing.

Let me put this in perspective. More than half of the GM and Ford leased vehicles that are returned at the end of their 24 month lease STILL have the original oil in the car. You will be fine by the short distance you are talking about.
