Oil brands used during oil changes

Does everyone take it to the dealer for oil changes and if so do you specify oil make or is it okay to use the chevron brand oil dealers typically use. Any benefits in using the acura brand oil from the parts department or synthethic oils. I tend to do oil changes every 5000 miles irrespective of the oil % life remaining.

If you are not going to keep the car over 6 years, use whatever good dino oil. Parts department oil would be just fine.

My local dealer charges $35 for an oil change, so I invest the money in a 6 pack of Mobil 1 and an Acura filter and do the work myself instead.

There are minimal differences between SM/GF-4 rated conventional oils. Follow the Maintenance Minder system.

I run conventional oils and change every 7500 on average on the other cars with only minimal varnish buildup and lots of short trip driving.

My dealer provides free scheduled oil changes for the life of the warranty. However, I provide the oil since I prefer to use Mobil 1.

Used to change my oil in my 93 Civic and 01 BMW, but kept my wife's 04 TL and amy 05 RL visiting dealers. Appointments & long waiting has me back to changing my own oil.

Just picked up 5W-20 Castrol GTX conventional oil at Walmart. $9.95 for 5 quarts. I bought a few since 5w-20 goes fast.

I am going to get the OEM oil filters tomorrow at the Dealer, then possibly order a bunch over the internet. Does anybody have advice on the best oil filters.

Also, I've used Castrol for 15years (Honda Civic & BMW). Anybody use Castrol and have any thoughts on conventional oil? Thanks.

Mobil1 5w20 or Amsoil with a Honda S2000 PCX filter. I'll bring my own oil and filter to Acura for them to change if I'm too busy to do so.

Just went to dealer to have A1 service which is oil change and tire rotation.
It was about $90.
Is that reasonable?

kkimjames, not bad. Here in NJ they took me to the cleaners, charged $150. The tire rotation and other visual inspection stuff is bogus. The only visual they get is waving to the drive thru girl at the local McDonalds. That's the "road test".
