Note: Rental Cars Dangerous to 2nd Gen RL Owners
It happened again yesterday. Was in LA driving a rental Impala and nearly got myself into an accident because I was in 2nd Gen RL mindset mode. As you folks in So. Cal know, it rained yesterday. I was crossing a long intersection with seemingly plenty of time and suddenly found myself spinning tires and going nowhere. Meanwhile, a horde of cars were quickly bearing down on me both from behind and from the side. I had to get off the loud pedal and slowly re-apply power . . . . a mental thought process going completely against what my emotional mind was screaming at the time.
Acura does not seem to be making much of push regarding the inherent safety of crossing intersections (their SH-AWD illustrations focused on making curves at high speeds), but as living proof of how a human becomes "programmed" to cause and effect response, I am now "RL mindset programmed" and instinctively expect a car to efficiently get across an intersection be it dry or rainy conditions. (Our other car is an AWD Lexus 400h). This has happened to me before with a rental Avalon in Florida under dry but gritty road conditions. Folks, our 2nd Gen RLs efficiently transmit power to the ground. Maybe we should consider ourselves potentially dangerous drivers when operating traditional front-wheel drive cars in rainy conditions!

LOL, you're right! I have to change my driving style when I'm in our Pilot. Even though it's "4WD", it's actually FWD in normal conditions.

I have to change vehicles on a day to day basis, I have a work vehicle. So making the change from my RL to another car isn't so difficult for me. one thing though, after driving around in my company car, I really do appreciate my RL more and more every day.

LOL! I remember I had a Dodge Stratus rental for the day, It was like the Twighlight Zone. I felt unsafe, insecure, and what was up with the interior? It feels like a disposable car.
I have to agree with you guys, after owning an RL, driving styles must be adjusted when driving something less than an RL.

I was just thinking how secure my RL felt driving in the wind and rain that fell in San Diego on Friday. I was more nervous about the cars around me sticking to the road. I even watched the pickup truck in front of me spin his wheels and fishtail when pulling away from the light.
