No spare tire with PAX

I have 2006 RL Tech+CMBS that came with PAX tires. The wheels and tires are changed to standard type and I have no spare tire in trunk. What have other people done in this situation? Do folks just drive around with no spare?

Never needed one, but you can find them used if you search around.

Buy a donut, or buy AAA.

Oh, and when you MID says you have 200 miles left on your flat tire, it really means you have 0. I think it's that damn female talking...

Get a donut. Don't depend on AAA or towing from your insurance company for a flat tire. If you have a flat in the middle of the desert or a blizzard, it will be hours of waiting for a tow when you could've put the spare on in less than 15 minutes.

I didn't say it was a good option.

Yeah, I was thinking it would be better to have a spare in the trunk. How do people secure the tire in the trunk? The PAX RL has a storage area where the spare would normally go. I'd hate to eat up valuable trunk space since I have to carry a stroller.

Parts 11 and 12. There should be a hole in the bottom of the storage area that these parts mount/screw into.

I was in the same situation as OP with my last car. I kept a bottle of Slime with me that I bought at Kmart. I'm glad I never had to use it though.

Thanks for the part numbers. I'm guessing I'll have to remove the storage tray for the spare tire to fit? Do you know if the storage tray comes out easily?

^Go yank it out and report back; I don't have one.

MSW, tire repair compounds will destroy your TPMS sensor from what I have heard.

Like oo7 said, it comes right out. Hopefully your car at least came with the spare tools, (jack, tire iron, tow hook, etc.) You will probably also want to get the compact tool holder that fits inside the donut, (part #6):

No, pouring liquid into your wheel/tire through an electronic tire pressure sensor is definitely not advisable. While the TPMS sensors are technically a sealed unit, I've definitely seen many get trashed by people using fix-a-flat. The other problem with carrying fix-a-flat in place of a spare is that not everything is easily plugged by that stuff. In fact, I find that 3 out of 4 times it is utterly useless. It's really only good for a slow leak. What if you have a blow out? A large gash? Bend a wheel? There are plenty of scenarios where the wheel or tire would be far too damaged to still drive on.

Including the pieces and parts to secure the spare and tools in the trunk, I paid about $250. I have yet to need it but it's nice to know it is there if I ever do.
