New Legend (with different grill)

Hi, happy RLers...
I saw a couple of pics of new legend with the different front grill.
Couldn't find the rear view, thou.
Anyhow, they are taken at 2008 Busan International Auto Show in Korea.
I'm not sure the grill is only for Lengend, but I hope they use it on RL too.

Mod edit: fixed pics (neuronbob)

Ooof..... I'm afraid that's even worse than the power plenum on the RL version.

At first glance, it looks like someone left the hood open!

Thanks for the pix, kkimjames! I fixed your pix in the first post.

THIS grille is much better.

PLEASE put this on the RL if you're not going to fix the "Power Phlegm" grille to one that we've suggested.

Either that, or give us a grille option like on the Pilot. PLEASE?

Edit: needs better wheels, too, but the aftermarket will fix that.

The grill is an improvement, but the headlights are the same UGLY ones on the US model.

Nah, I've got no issue with the headlights. It was the "Power Phlegm" grille that bothered me. This one for the Legend looks aggressive, yet classy.

I have to admit, I actually don't mind it. Certainly looks better then the Acura monstrosity to my non American eyes

To me, much as I love my Legend, the looks have never really gelled. Not un-attractive, just not honed to a coherent finish. It will be interesting to see this new grill in the flesh.

That grille is pretty nice. It proves that the problem is Colliver and his band of sycophants and morons. Honda's not dumb enough to put the Acura grille on its global version of the flagship.

I wonder if the grilles are swappable?

This grille isn't fantastic -- it's a little too "fat" for a luxury grille, I think -- but it's a damn sight better than the beak on the US version.

Now, if they just gave it thin louvers like the current RL grille, they'd be on to something.

This LeBaron...I mean Legend, still looks uncohesive. Why do I think Chrysler or Camry. It's no Legend in my book, and I had 2 US Legends.

once a car design is done, you can't go back and try to restyle it. A refresh can work, but the 09 is tacked on..

Honda Accord-ish indeed.

Does Honda need to steal a few interns from another car company to design a friggin grille.

The grille does look better, but unfortunately the front end contours are such that even a new grille will not be enough to salvage the look.

The recessed hood line and the bulging front lay out the framework for a gawdy front end. Obviously, this does not appeal to me and is the reason why I have abandoned any hopes of warming up to the MMC RL.

Yup, I agree, I do not like it either, not as bad the Acura grill, but it is still too Honda-ish, which is what they want. But I am speaking from the point of an Acura brand.

Yes, I agree with the majority. Looks better but still not a winner. The grill is just too big and out of allignment with the headlights. The shield on the Acura version only makes it a little worse. Shrink down the grill and either style would be acceptable to me.

Was anyone looking at the car?? Seriously though, maybe a little better but still too disproportionate in my opinion, just doesn't work for some reason, not pleasing to the eye.

Its ok, but now it really looks like a 'grandpa' car. No sports appeal like our 05-08's as far as styling goes. But who knows, might be better looking in person.

Agree. Not as repulsive to me as the RL grille, but certainly would make me pass on the LEGEND no matter how well built or feature laden.

This redesign, even if leveraged for pedestrain safety standards, was rushed, chopped and not even deserving of a econono-appliance, nevermind a flagship I regard as high as a LEGEND / RL.

The decisionmakers at Honda and particularly Acura, who approved this hack have my regards, at rock bottom.

Ah, I was waiting for your reply!

What this design shows is that anything is better than the "Power Phlegm" grille, at least on the RL. That is its official name on AZ from now on.....

Gee I am flattered!

I am late, but I have a note! I am in San Francisco for biz, then back to Tampa tonight to turn around and head for Alaska for a few weeks. So I am kinda behind on my MMC bashing.

"Power Phlegm", "Mucus Mask", "Freak Face", "Gorilla Grille", "Bastard Beak"....it's all the same. This is a Grade A, Class One, Code Red design faux pas.

If Acura and Honda had any dignity left, they would acknowledge our cries. But instead the smug retorts will likley be etched on their corporate tombstones. Colliver's DOA will likley read 'died from having his head too far up his own ass..'

This is an embarassment to the LEGEND and a heinous crime to the RL.

I am not bitter.

I do agree, it does look a bit Accordish. It doesn't look good as the 04-08's original grills.

"Mucus Mask"? Very good. Got me to smile

How bout some "It's so ugly" lines?

This grill is so ugly I hear they are making a Halloween mask based on it this year. Bada bum.

OK, that was lame but it's the best I could think of before my second cup of coffee. Give me a break.

The 5th picture of the Legend's front, the grille is HUGE...the rear looks pretty much the same.

Nice find, thanks. Agree, the Grille looks huge and mean, like a mad Terminator. I like the rear a lot, looks massive and luxurious. The girls otoh:

Oo, oo, oo, Dirty Dozens! Let me try!

The "Power Phlegm" grille is so ugly, it puts Saturn to shame. (Note: I've noticed that those who say it looks like the new Saturn grille are 100% correct.)

Thanks for the link to the other pictures. I still like the rear. I still like the Honda grille better than the Acura one. I like the girl in blue. I DO like the Legend, Sam I Am!

Plain Ass Ugly

Honda Legend, Acura RL, dont give a damn what we call it...The bottom line is that the 09 iteration is plain ass ugly!!!

The front is atrocious, the rear sucks, the side is lame and this styling exercise simply epitomizes the very essence of design failure and stylistic incompetence. There I've said it...

As much as I love my 05 RL and as much as I've been a loyal Acura supporter and purchaser since 89. If Acura doesn't get their collective sh*t together with their 11 FMC redesign effort they can color me gone...
