My new DVD-Audio won't play

Wah! Finally got my first DVD-A disc (from the coupon that came with the car) and was all excited to play it and the stereo keeps rejecting it. I got the Blasters Live: Going Home DVD-A and was REALLY looking forward to hearing this through the RL stereo but no joy. I'm limited in my ability to trouble-shoot where the fault lies - the DVD players on my computers don't have software licensed for DTS 5.1 decoding. I can play the 2 channel PCM tracks no problem so at least I don't believe there's any damage to the surface of the disc (and no visible marks) but can't figure out why the RL keeps spitting it out. It doesn't provide any helpful diag messages, just processes it for a bit then ejects. Any thoughts? FWIW the sample DVD-A that came with the car does play OK.

I checked out the DVD and it appears to be a standard DVD, not a DVD-A disc.

The system in the RL will play only DVD-A discs, it will not play DVD-Video discs. These are two entirely different formats that both use a DVD disc to store the data. To learn more see:

http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/dvd9.htm

Karl, check the disc...does it say DVD-A anywhere on it? Does it have video that plays on your TV? ...if it has video, it is not DVD-A format.

Unfortunately, I do not think you have a DVD-A disc...sorry

Actually it does say DVD-A. On the legend there's a listing of the various track formats and it lists DVD-A, DTS, and PCM. There's no video just some stills. I'm more than willing to believe it's an issue with the production/formatting of the disc and not the RL, especially since the RL plays the DVD-A demo just fine. On Amazon and several other sites where I researched what was available on DVD-A this album is consistently listed in the DVD-A category. And I "bought" it from the bose5.1 site that the coupon refers us to. Sigh. I'm a big Blasters fan so it's a bummer that I can't play it. Thanks for the help. I'm going to drop a note to the disc's producer just to give them feedback about this.

Must be the disc. I had quite a few DVD-A's left over from my time with the '04 TL and they all play in the RL. Fleetwood Mac, Elton John, Yes, New Wave compilation, Diana Krall, Eagles, Donald Fagen, etc. etc.

FYI, Virgin Mega is a good source for DVD-A's.

Stupid question but did you flip it over to see if it's mislabeled. Maybe the music is on the other side.

There are NO stupid questions! But yeah, it's labeled correctly. Guess Phil & Dave Alvin won't be singing in DVD-A in the RL. For snicks I'll take it with me next trip to the dealer and try it out on some other RL's - I'm pretty sure it won't work but I like to elimininate all the variables.

Karl,

Sorry I didn't guess right that it wasn't a DVD-A disc. Do you have a home system that plays DVD-A, if so you might want to try playing it on that. Let us know what happens 'cos it sounds like that type of disc format is causing problems.

What's the deal with DVD-A coupon..I never got one in my RL purchased in November. Did everyone here get a coupon ?

Was the coupon a discount coupon or a coupon for a free DVD-A ?

It was for a free DVD-A. It was a Bose/Acura deal. I think it came in the Navi material, but I am not sure about that. Goto this web site. I think you can still get your disc even without the coupon. It gives a number to call. Hope this helps.

I believe the coupon for the free DVD-A was inside the cover of the demo disc.
