My New Car Got Hit!
I am so upset! I got out of work to find my car was hit while someone was attempting to park next to me. I just purchased the car a couple of weeks ago!
Obviously, I would rather not use insurance and I would not enjoy painitng both doors to fix this. From what you all see, what would be the safest and best option to repair this type of damage.
Unfortunately all the "white" that you see is the paint scratched off and the metal under the paint.
What would you all do?!?!

I had my car repaired at my buddies Mazda dealership. The RL uses the same paint as any other Acura. Just have to be sure the painter knows how to properly mix a pearl. I got my car in March and since then I came outside to my car hit in the bumper/headlight/fender, was caught in a hail storm, and hit an 18 wheeler tire in the middle of the highway. As a result I have gotten a new front bumper, new headlights, new fenders, two new aspec wheels, every dent paintless repaired and whole car buffed, and a new front aspec spoiler all from insurance as none of this was my fault. There were cars beside me on the freeway when I hit that tire so I could not avoid it. Premium hasn't gone up and I actually came out with a better looking car.
I was down about all of this at first but its just a car and can be fixed. I say go through insurance, as this was not your fault, and have a reputable shop repair it.

That sucks man! there's a lot of dishonest people out there that they don't leave any note and leave the scene. This looks like uninsured motorist claim with a minimum deductible of $250.00 Good luck and keep us posted.
Its not just any paint job! Luxury paint much more work to paint its not the color its the work man ship. The paint is smooth like glass and no orange peel or dust marks. Mazda paint job lol I don't think so! Mess up the paint and depreciate your car big time.
What is your deductible? Since they got both doors, I would say you are looking at $1,200+ for repairs. Go through insurance. Nothing will change except your bank will be one deductible lower.
As for a body shop, if you go through insurance, I would have an Acura associated shop do it unless you know of a quality shop. I know of a shop here in Austin that can do a flawless job that I would trust with any car. Where are you located?

that's a $500 job.... $200-$250 per door.... was the chrome on the molding damaged? if it is, those moldings are expansive... if not, you can paint the molding, minus the chrome.... same thing happend to me on the driver side @ CVS parking lot, it happened in less than 5 min..... sigh, people do such thing to damage other people's car and run away deserve to get hit by a semi and suffer the most painful death....

All I know is I was well taken care of. LOL
Sorry to hear bad news man - I suggest that you go through insurance... on my previous car I had claim of similar sort when I damaged the car while on the parking lot and bill was 2400$ --- my insurance was up only $10/mo for next 6 months...
Also do it properly - Acura Dealer Body Shop - nothing else!!! If you have money for RL then deductible is nothing... with expensive car comes more expensive amounts of money to cash out - but well worth it!!!

i would not necessarily assume that an Acura dealer is going to get you the best body shop. who knows who acura subs it out to.. the *dealer* does not do it.. they just sub it out to a local dealer.
if you want top notch body work - find the place where the Ferrari and Porsche guys take their cars. those guys know and expect quality - and only the really good shops get volume of those cars. the shop may cost a bit more, but they will do your Acura right.
sorry your new car got hit..that really stinks.

Interestingly, the factory paint is hand sanded between application of coats
EXTERIOR PAINT
The exterior paint on the 2005 Acura RL uses an environmentally conscious water-based process. The painting procedure begins with an electrodeposition (ED) primer, which is electrically charged in the paint bath. After the ED primer is applied, it is cured at high temperature to improve corrosive durability.
Next comes a primer-surfacer (PS) that is hand sanded to ensure a smooth surface for better appearance. After a waterborne color basecoat (BC) is applied, a pair of clear coats provide depth while helping to protect the base coat from air pollution, acid rain and fog.

that damage is not severe enough to replace the door or the door skin.... just need to remove the door handle, trim, sand down the area of the deep scratch, remove dent, smooth out, surface, than repaint the 2 door panel and trims... finally, put everything back.... so, $400-$500 for the entire job seem resonable...
I noticed that bodyshops/tint shop down here in South Florida won't charge an arm and a leg compare to other places....
oh yeah, and watch out for orange peel on black paint... it shows up the most obvious... but a good bodyshop should know how to get rid of them

Sorry to hear man, I got dicked over myself recently. I hope everything works out for you. I'm totally neurotic when I park my RL making sure I'm perfectly even in the spot (even if I have to readjust. I usually park away from everyone else though because my last car got dented up repeatedly when I used to work in a mall.
