More powah baby

I posted here a while ago because I wanted more power for my RL and supercharger might have been the way to go but after doing the math and really thinking about it it's probably not the way to go lol. Not a lot of info. Could be a big headache. Same gains as N/A.

The RL is a tank and when you need to move tanks it's not the power you need but the torque you need and the availability across the entire powerband so I'm really considering the following:

10+ MDX heads (because I cant find the a2/a4 heads)
I/H/E because
Bigger DISPLACEMENT? 3.6 maybe (probably not worth it)

I know some other smaller parts will have to be replaced but the idea is to just stuff a 3.7 into the 3.5 block and run it on the stock ecu and pray for no problems.

What you think?

Seems to me like if it was that easy everyone would be doing it.

ypeah, but then you run into the problem of tuning....
changing oout the heads and all the internals wont net you gains if you cant tune it....

if there's too much air and not enough fuel, you run into problems.
if there's too much fuel and not enough air, you run into problems.

how do you solve the tuning problem?

I think I mentioned that I installed MDX heads but didnt gain shit, actually LOST power...Tooo MUCH AIR!
Now that I have the ability to tune, I want to try again

How are you tuning it? Lol.

I was just gonna hope and pray it would work itself out. Tuning helps get maximum gains but I'm okay with anything I can gain off stock ecu. Leaving power on the table is okay as long as I get something more.

Like if I could tune it and get out 50 more hp I'm cool with settling for 20 more off stock ecu. Some of those accord/CL guys claim to get some gains.

Also. Theres a thread somewhere where a guy dynoed his RL after some mods and got some sketchy results he attributed to the shawd on the dyno. I think I remember in that same thread another guy said he swapped a 3.7 into his RL with results. First guy had dynos and thr 3.7 guy didn't really have proof.

I know that some guys on here that swap intake lose power. Probably because they move tq curve up? Have you tried putting the mdx spacer on? I think the main goal is to get as much torque down low as possible. The hardest part is getting the RL to move. 4200lbs is a lot to move. Need more torques!

I have a 2006 6MT TL.

long story short, I borked the stock 3.2l heads...researched and was convinced 3.7l heads would make more power, especially because of the design of the exhaust ports.
at the time, I didnt have enough funds and just needed the car on the road. I swapped the MDX 3.7l heads on and def. LOST power. it was leaking oil and I wanted to redo somethings, so i tore it back down. after a mistake, i seized the bottom end. swapped a stock 3.2l engine back in....

but now I have flashpro!
and would be willing to play around with the heads, or even swap a larger J in!
if my bank account will allow me

It's still gonna be slow & your gonna waste a decent chunk of change.

There's a boosted RL in Montreal that's "getting by" with an AEM FIC & he says the car is still slow with 6psi.

Manifold spacer, lightweight crank pulley and a J37A2 manifold/Throttle body woke my RL up a bit but at the end of the day, the transmission is the definition of a dud for any sort of performance.

Ok. Would bigger injectors have helped you?

tuning would have helped....only tuning would help.
one could install the larger injectors but without tuning, there is no way to optimize air flow and fuel flow.

I would love to try again!
used heads are cheap!
used engines are cheap!

More gas does not make a car faster, gasoline engines are throttled by air, not gas.

stock engine with exhaust mods, i dyno'd 241hp to the front wheels.

stock engine with mdx heads and exhaust mods, I dyno'd 214hp to the front wheels

I lost roughly 27hp...
dyno'd on the same dyno.

you can see how choppy the 2nd graph is compared to the first...
the first, is actually pretty smooth.

I would love to try again!!!!!!
this time, I HAVE the ability to tune
