either they are confused on the firing order, or I am. at least we agree that its the front center.

i really believe #2 is towards the front. let me make sure.

Everything I read said it was that cylinder too. What makes that one so vulnerable?

hmm... this is troubling to me... i just replaced my spark plugs and only torqued it to 10 pounds because I read in another thread of warping the head with the factory 13 pounds torque specs. should i go back in and retorque to spec then??

never hurts to check your torque after a few heat cycles.

aluminum head + pressure = kaboom!?

ripping the threads right out.

All I know is that it happens on most J-series engines. and that it could happen prior to a spark plug change. some have had it happen on stock plugs.

I got scared and checked mine a couple of months ago. ALL were tight.
also, some hear a ticking noise, like air escaping, prior to the ejection.

Approx 80k miles since service. At 60mph = 1333 hours. Times 60 = 80000 minutes. At 2000 RPM = 160,000,000 pushes against the plug.

It's going to be tough to call the shop on them failing to tighten the plug!

to expound, maybe the firing order has something to do with it.

I remember taking off my intake manifold and seeing a spray pattern on only 2 cylinders. which 2? I've forgotten, but the rest of the cylinders were clean.
same with my buddies car. only 2 cylinders had this spray pattern on it.
weird. and just rambling about my experiences.

yup- at 2:30

raining crazy today, so probably no pics until it clears up
funny story yesterday while I'm waiting to sign the contract.

Raining yesterday as well and I'm waiting in the lounge. Rain intensifies and I believe it is the Asst Mgr walks by me and says "days like this is why we make AWD". I say - great to tell me that on the day I'm trading my AWD for FWD!

Why a new car over a $700 repair?

It doesn't really matter; . I just didn't see that coming. What did they give you for the RL?

Its got 183K miles and I did not trust that another plug might go. Have several driving trips planned in near future. Its got other wear and tear issues as well that I'm tired of looking at. Brake job and tires due very soon and up for another A13 service now (10%). If there was a time to unload it I felt now was the time.

Was hoping to hold out until the hybrid, but when I found out the true delta between discounted Advance and Hybrid Advance, I just thought regular one was much better deal.

at the damage.

Fair enough on the reasoning. Enjoy your new car. That is an experience I have only lived vicariously through my wife.

while searching for the pink slip, I found the sticker from my 2005. MSRP = 48,900.
I remember getting a very good deal on that car too - seems like 41K. Will see if I can find the contract.

In any case, I got the 2014 RLX Advance for 400 more than 2005 list. There was only 1 model in 2005.

This is the reason I torqued my plugs down to 25lbs when I installed them last week. I work for a Honda dealer and I have seen this happen on V6's before. I rerightened my wife's Pilot plugs a few months back just to be safe. I also will say that the plugs came out of the RL way to easily. They weren't loose but they broke free with almost no force.

I should mention that I am not a mechanic. I understand 25lbs might be excessive but I don't beleive that is anywhere near enough pressure to strip the threads. I would rather have it a tad bit tighter than risk the plug loosening up.
