Question Low temp problem with door handle unlocking ?

Hi -

I'm curious if anyone else has had a problem with the door handle sensors for unlocking the car not working at low (i.e., below freezing) temperatures. I bought my RL last May. The doors unlocked just fine by grabbing the handles up until January when the temperatures started dropping. It was both doors that were affected and it didn't matter which key FOB was detected. I was going to make an appointment with my dealer to have it checked, but now they are working fine again. Are the sensors some sort of thermal sensors ?

I did call my dealer service dept and the guy suggested I might have bumped the FOB and "delinked" it ? Didn't make much sense to me. And why would I be doing this only when it's cold ?

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so, was there a fix ?

Thanks

I did not have that problem all winter. It got into the single digits some days even here in Virginia.

Had a problem locking in winter here in NJ. Not too severe though. Had to rub the dimple a few times and it would eventually lock.

Had a total failure of the driver's side handle after a very rainy day - simply would not unlock. Needed to bring it to the dealer for a handle replacement. The passenger side worked fine through winter though.

Were you wearing a glove when it was cold? That was the only time I ever had a problem with the sensors not unlocking the doors. However, whenever it is damp (or raining), I can't get the sensor on the driver's side to lock the door.

I have not had trouble working it in the rain, though it does go crazy when you are washing the car and within about three feet spraying water on the handle, it starts beeping like you are touching it even though only a stream of water is touching it.

I had trouble with the dimple on the drivers door in cold wweather... Pressing on the dimple would not lock the doors and I was not using a glove when I tried locking the doors wih the dimple... Called my dealer and was told that cold weather affected the operation of the dimples and this was normal...

Low temp problem with door handle not unlocking ?

Thanks to all for the feedback. I guess I'll see if the problem returns next winter.

Single digit temps in Virginia ? Ouch. In reply to a few of the above posts, I wasn't wearing gloves when I had the problem. Water, from rain or car washed never seemed to affect things. Guess I should be thankful for that.
