Love My RL

Love My RL
Based on the recent influx of negative posts about the RL, I feel compelled to give an opinion on my RL after 4 years of ownership.
Hands down, the best car I have ever owned. Like many, after 4 years I would be in the market for another vehicle. I plan on keeping this car for at least another couple of years. There are not many vehicles out there that offer a similar bang for the buck IMO.
How fast a car would go 0-60mph used to be high on my list. The RL has tamed that need. Not sure if its the luxurious ride or all the gadgets, but I am content with the peaceful serene ride and do not miss the adrenelin rush of gunning it at street lights or tooling down the highway at excessive speeds. Having said that, I do push the RL when taking sharp corners just to appreciate the handling of the SHAWD.
This may not be the car for everyone, but I wanted a luxury vehicle with high reliability and the RL has delivered beyond my expectations.

I leased a 2005 RL for three years and thought it was the best car I ever owned also. When the 2009 models were held at the port I leased an Infiniti M35. I will be back in an RL later this afternoon when I pick up a 2010 that I decided to purchase. The $4,000 marketing support combined with .9 financing for 60 months make this car's value even better. I toyed with the idea of waiting for the 2011's to arrive, but felt this buying opportunity was too good to pass up.

Had mine for 4 years as well, and it feels as tight and solid as the day I drove it off the lot. As Robarsan will attest, this car is great in the New England weather, and I remember driving home from work after they closed early for snow and just sailing by Audi Quattros and BMW X-drives on the highway...I still miss my RSX Type S, but not as much.

well put, my thoughts on this car exactly
I recently purchased a 2005 RL, too good of a deal to pass up, and i couldnt be happier with my decision. I was dead set on buying a 350z, that was the car i had to have. but one fateful day i just so happened to drive the RL, and immediately had to have it. Sure i sacrificed some acceleration, and a 6spd, but how important is that, really? If i want a track car I'll buy a 240sx, id rather have a daily driver that didnt beg me to rag on it every mile. Best purchase of my life imo. mods coming soon

that is very well said. I have a 2006 RL which I have grown to really enjoy. I have owned it for about a year and like it more now than I did when I first bought it.
I have really come to appreciate how nice of a car it is, and I too came from a faster DD. I push the car in many turns and am still amazed at how SH-AWD can make such a heavy car handle so well....
I turn 38 this year. I sometimes wonder if I like the RL more simply because I'm getting "old"...

Translation: You are more sophisticated, refined and appreciate the total experience the RL has to offer. You no longer need to use superlatives such as 'Extreme', 'Awesome', or the adjuntives 'like' and 'most-...'. You value what pleases you and not what pleases others nor do you feel your personal affirmation is based on the detriment of others ('owned').
My is that the RL is more sophisticated and intelligent than the vast majority of drivers on the road, hence the low volume sales (coupled with Acura's brilliance in marketing and styling).
Acura is very, very lucky the majority of owners (particularly the majority of members of this forum) took the time and effort to seek out this car. There are, however, as typical, those who have very unrealistic expectations as to what this car is about and what is should be able to do. Their problem, not mine.

This thread makes me very happy because I have just started the paperwork to purchase an '05 RL from a member of Azine. I can't wait to take possession! This will be my fifth Acura. I've had a '92 Integra GS, an '03 MDX touring, an '03 CLS-6, and we currently own an '06 MDX touring. I did not want to sell my CLS but just found out we're having a second baby and I just couldn't fit a car seat behind the driver's seat. All of the reviews I've read, coupled with the safety and handling accolades convinced me to get the RL instead of an ES 330. Just another example of the Azine community as a great resource. I will post pics of my car when I officially take possession!

i have to agree with you that, RL is not the car for everyone but it definitely fits my style as well as my need. I have test driven many cars from mbz e,s series to bmw (5 and 7) series, but they are not what i need. I will wait to see the new 2012 RL coming out and judge against other new models on the market.

I feel at home with everyone here. I have had my RL since i was 21 and now that i will be 25 next week i have to honestly say this car is the best car for the money with everything it has to offer. I drive alot and everytime i drive my RL it feels like the first time....corny i know.... but i love it. I'm in such a difficult spot now because i kind of want something new but there is nothing out there that will match everything the RL has. I wish they had the same exact body style just with all the new tech options out there. I would buy like 3 of them in different colors.....well maybe not but i would definetly buy a new one. The only car i can think of replacing my RL with is a Audi A5 but it isnt the same car so i dont know what i'm going to do...

I wish I had enough money to keep the RL I had, and my CTS-V. Love them both, and really miss my RL 18 months later. This is despite the occasional electrical gremlin it had.
I can only hope my RL's new owner is babying it like I did mine.
