Loud screech

after my 2006 RL has been sitting for a few hours or overnight, I will hear a very loud screech a couple of times as I drive forward or backward and it’ll go away and not be heard again until it’s left sitting for awhile.
The screech lasts only a second or two and may be coming from the rear of the car. I don’t know what to make of it. I’d appreciate any ideas before I bring it to our mechanic.

Do you engage the parking brake when you park the car? Almost sounds like it could be sticking.

No, I actually never use the parking brake.

The sound is like someone running their fingers down a blackboard. It lasts a second, like a beep would. It can occur as I begin to backup or go forward. It's very loud, guess I said that already.
It only happens after I get into the car and begin to drive, never after that. Hope this helps.

I'm an amateur throwing a theory: can it be the drive belt or it's pulley/bearing? Maybe an adjustment or the grease on the pulley has dried up?

I’ll mention your theory when I bring it to my mechanic.

Today was worse than I’ve ever heard it. It seemed to be coming from under the right side of the car. It screeched several times as I drove it then stopped. That’s the first time I heard it numerous times after I backed out of a parking spot then heard it as I drove forward.

How many miles are on the car? If its from the rear, the only other thing that readily comes to mind is wheel bearings, but those would still made a loud (not necessarily screeching) noise when driving....

wheel bearings? Hmmm. I’ll mention that to mechanic. I know that I’ll have to leave it overnight for them to hear it.
Thanks

That drive belt is on the right side. If the car runs fine, no shaking or anything, etc. I'd say the drive belt, it's pulley or tensioner. Not expensive stuff.

Good idea. The car drives fine otherwise. Thanks
