Lost my bumper, local dealers screwing me on the parts (shocking I know)

CRAZY story, but the title gives you the end result.

The rear bumper had a small part that had been sticking out for weeks, probably because the retaining piece had broken somehow. Anyways, every time it would pop out, I'd just pop it back in and figure at some point this summer I'd take a look at it and put in place a more permanent fix.

I did not get the chance.

I am driving on the highway and I notice people are looking at me funny. I decided to pull over to see if they were looking at anything specific and low and behold, my bumper had popped off almost entirely except for the last few clasps that were holding on, and I was dragging it behind my car.

I ripped off the bumper from the last little bit it was hanging on to and drove home.

The next day I went to a collision shop to have it quoted. They called around and the local dealers want 900 FRICKIN DOLLARS for the bumper when online you can find it for around $400.

Delray Acura OEM Parts

I know dealers love hosing clients but this is ridiculous.

Can anyone provide any advice in terms of ways of getting this bumper in Canada, specifically the GTA (Greater Toronto Area). The shop is reasonable in terms of quoting me for the work but I am not about to pay $500 more than I should for the piece itself.

Any advice is welcome. Thanks.

remember, Bumper's do not come painted.
as you saw, delray has it for $352, unpainted.

you'll then have to find a shop to paint it, which can run from anywhere between $200-350.

Look for an RL at the local salvage yards that suffered a head on or side collision.

$900 for an OEM painted sounds about right. Buy oem and get it matched for $250 somewhere or pay about $750-$900 and get it done with warranty from dealer or affiliate. ABRA Collision does great work with good warranties.

Is the $900 for a fully painted, ready to install bumper? If so, the price is about right. If it's the same unpainted ones like you get from the online dealers, then I agree with you on it being ridiculous. As others have pointed out, the online price is for unpainted.

You don't find many RL's in scrap yards here. Look on Kijiji or Ebay. There is a local importer who posted a bunch of bumpers that just came in. What colour code are you?

Agreed, try this route, but you will have to get lucky to A. find one, B. find one that's the same colour as your's.

Honestly, 900$ for an OEM bumper, painted and installed at a dealer is not crazy at all.

I posted here on AZ recently about how surprised I was about the lack of used RLs to purchase in general here - https://acurazine.com/forums/second-...ll-rls-930163/ So finding one in a local junk yard or Pick and Pull might be somewhat difficult but you might get lucky. In terms of the cost of a new bumper, I agree that $900 isn't all that bad. My daughter had a minor fender bender in our 09 Accord and all that really needed fixing was the bumper cover. The license plate frame was torn from the cover so there was a little fiberglass work to be done and with repainting the whole bumper, an indy bodyshop charged me $500 cash. Just as a point of reference.

On point Like you said, by comparison, 900$ isn't bad at all! I remember looking at M-tech bumpers for my friend's 3 series, and just the rear bumper part, unpainted was close to 900$ + shipping !!?!?!?! Price of German Engineering right?

Thanks guys.

Regarding questions, the $900 is the part being quoted before paint. The shop I am going to use is charging me $500 for the paint and installation, something I have confirmed is around market price.

So if I pay $900 for the part pre-paint, plus $500 for paint and install, it's $1,400 vs the $900-$1000 I was hoping this would cost.

I am going to keep trying. Thanks for the suggestions.

Eff it, I decided to take a few hours out of my day and order it out of Buffalo. I will pick it up myself. It'll save me $500 bucks less any customs costs (not accounting for the time out of my day but that's another discussion. Maybe I will do it on a Saturday).

Buy it, pay $300 to paint and install it yourself. Its an easy install. Did you look into ebay or Kijiji?

Update:

Auto Care Collision in Brampton will paint it and install it for me for $400. So instead of $900 (+taxes) for the part + $500 I was originally quoted I am getting it all done for $600 Canadian (the exchange on the USD-CAD of around 1.2%) for the part + $400 installed, so about a $500 savings. I will take that any day.

Just one more thing, I forgot the stinking mouldings. But I will take care of that after. I just need a bumper cover taken care of because the car looks awful right now.
