Leaving the RL

Well, after 11 years and exactly 90k miles, I am parting with my 05 RL. I listed it on CL for $3500 and sold it in one day, agreed to $3250. Priced it aggressively and wasn’t trying to be greedy. 134k on the clock, all receipts, very well maintained. A deer ran into the rear quarter panel about a month ago and put a dent in it so had to take that into account when selling, mechanically it is perfect, cosmetically a few bumps and bruises...damn armrests.

I will miss this car dearly, but it no longer offers what I need. This car has been truly incredible, never left me stranded and after fixing common bugs on the 05 between 40k and 60k miles, it’s been flawless. It has handled everything I threw at it and gave me great gas mileage 24/30! I changed the oil today for the new owner and after 7500 miles, it burned less than a half quart of oil.

So, what am I replacing it with. I suspect many will gasp, but I’m getting a 2019 Pilot EX-L, which we will now have 2 of since my wife drives a 16 pilot. Was very interested in the new passport, but they wouldn’t budge on price and wanted msrp...no thanks. Passport is very nice, but smaller than a pilot, yet pilot was several thousand cheaper. Couldn’t see paying up for a similar smaller vehicle.

the new owner bought it for his 21 year old daughter, man I hope she takes care of it.

i enjoyed yer being on this forum, helping people and being helped. I’ll still peak in now and then and help if I can, but will now have to find a good pilot forum.

Congrats on the new Pilot. It seems like a lot of folks are moving on from sedans to SUVs.

Thx. I wanted a quick sale and I wanted more than the dealer would give. I got both. They aren’t easy cars to sell privately as the audience is relatively small. Most people have no idea what it is. I had priced it at $6k about 6 months ago and got zero hits.

6k with $130k miles on it isn't that bad of a price at all. Especially since it's been maintained.

Like I said, zero hits at $6k. Edmunds suggests a trade in value of $2k, private party $2780. Kbb suggests a trade in average of $2500 and private party of $4300. All over the map. I am convinced the resale prices are on the lower end, unless you want to wait a while, for the sheer fact that very few know what this car is all about.

i had three hits in two days, one guy only wanted to pay $2900, one was a scam and the other was the one I accepted. Had I wanted to wait a while I might have received closer to $4k, but I had two goals, and both were met. I got great use of my RL, it cost me zero in repairs, just basic maintenance. Time for someone else to enjoy the car. Someone indeed is getting a great car at a great Price!

we have a 2016 pilot with no issues. I’ve read about issues with later model cars but heard there was a software fix to address it.
