Key fob destroyed: Moderate solution wanted...

So, my wife left the #1 fob on the RL's top today and it ended up in the street, then it was run over by someone and destroyed. I know that the dealer is going to charge an arm/leg/1st born for a new one. Is there any way to pickup a new one on-line and have the key cut at Home Depot (or some other scheme to not fork out $$ to remedy this)? Thanks...

the RL's key a special smart key, it's going to be a pretty penny to get one. The Dealer is the only one who can make the smart key with the keyless entry and start function.

As your wife made the mistake, I vote for the first born!

Did you take it apart? Is the circuit board damaged/broken? If the circuit board is in good shape then you can just buy a used key off EBay and use the case to replace it.

If the whole thing is damaged, you'll have to call the dealer to see if they'll reprogram a key from one car to another.
