Key Battery always low

Hello All,
I have just purchased my first Acura. A beautiful 1 owner 2005 Acura RL. And I love the voice activated everything once I figured out I have to press the talk button before I say anything. My only issue with the car is that my key is always low. Being a used car, I only got one key and am kind of concerned I will be stranded one day. I replaced both batteries in the key fob and it is low again after about a week. Is there some way I'm supposed to charge the key or distance I should keep it away from the car when not in use?

When the car says, "welcome driver #" on the MID, does the # match the number on the back of the key?

Yes. Both are driver 2.

I have a 2006 RL and have both key fobs however when using #2 my doors do not automatically lock at 15MPH like they do when using key fob#1. Is this normal?

That just means the settings for driver 2 are set different. The menu can be accessed through the MID when either remote is linked and the car is on and in the park position.

Not sure what the issue could be, but maybe carry an extra battery with you in the glove box.

Does the car lock? Wondering if fob1 is in the car somewhere and that is the fob with low battery

The car will still lock with a fob inside if the other fob is outside and nearby. The other fob in the car was what I was getting at.

I haven't seen the other fob when I look around the car. After I changed the batteries in the fob it didn't do the low battery for one trip. I will check out the battery voltage. Is there anyway to operate the car without the fob in case of emergency?

There is a physical key in the corner of the fob where the ring hole is. Press the button to release it.

Try starting the car without fob 2 any where near it. That will rule out if fob one is in the car.

Is that true?

I know you cannot close the trunk with one fob in trunk and the other nearby or even inside starting the car

to OP: - are you still getting the warning? I vaguely recall that the warning took a day or 2 to go away when I replaced fob battery

How do you start the car with the physical key?

the part that you turn that is located where a normal key goes, you flip down the cover and the key can be inserting

I couldn't figure that part out but I could start the car with the key fob 15 ft away in my house.

I'd look in all the obvious - under seat, side of seat, space between seat bottom and back, etc.

cannot be in trunk as I said trunk will not close if it is in there

there is a "secret" compartment for the manual in the top of the glove box, but I would think previous owner would remember if he put it there

top open, see button near top of the glove box and compartment drops down

Checked that. Its so weird. It still says driver 2 even though I have the driver 2 key 15 ft away from the car. I can start the car but I can't lock the doors.

It will stay associated with the fob that last unlocked the doors. Thus if fob2 locked/unlocked, then it will say welcome fob2 and start car if fob1 is in the car, but it was not unlocked with fob1.

thus, the behavior is explainable and fob1 must be in the car somewhere

Thank you so much. I couldn't find it anywhere. Maybe the detailer will find it tomorrow. I really wanted a second key. That and its very weird to be driver 2 in my own car.

The thank you so much. I spent the last 30 minutes tearing the car apart and found it all the way under the passenger seat. I no longer have the most likely to be stolen RL

I do have one other beginner question. I have 2 phones in the bluetooth memory. How do I get the car to stop asking me to set up Acura link? Verizon isn't even an option too if I wanted.

Cool that you found it!

In terms of Acuralink, I'm not sure. Mine stopped asking me very early on even though I did not set it up.

No cancel button in the "ask" screen?

Getakey, yes you can leave a second fob in the car and lock it. You cannot close it in the trunk. I know because my wife would want to leave her purse in the trunk and I would have to move the key to the cabin.

OP, this is probably the 4th or 5th "I've lost my key and can't find it thread." Although yours unfolded much differently than previous threads.

Lol I didn't lose anything. I bought the car with only 1 key. This is more like I found a key and 35 cents in my new Acura
