iPod without Acuralink

Has anyone tried using the iPod without using the Acura TTS software? Does it work well?

You get options 5 and 6....basically random music selection. The whole Acura iPod solution stinks...all they need is better on-board software...

you can also use the built in software on the Ipod, its accessable while you are driving on the ipod itself.
Not recommended while driving, but useful while at a red light or a passenger can use it.

I have an 06 RL with ipod and acura link. I hate it. I have read other posts that say you can use the ipod itself to select music while plugged into the accura link but I have been unable to do so. Can anyone provide instructions on how to use the ipod itself while plugged into acura link?

Actually, no, you can't. At least not in my experience. The iPod interface is completely locked out when it's plugged into AcuraLink.“

Not me... I have been able to access it.
It could be dependent on the version and firmware you using.
I know that until I applied the latest firmware to my 60GB unit, it was hit and miss, but afterwards its constant. I can access the menu and select whatever I want to play. I can shuffle songs, play playlists, artists etc.

Well, I tried it on my 1m old Nano 4mb (now old style... :-) ).

No go on this.

Just fyi. But it would have been nice. I hate the Acura/Honda iPod software. They could do such a better job if they just tried......

I am using a 60GB Ipod.
The firmware is as of April 06, I will get the exact firmware coding later when I get it out of my car.
All I have to do to access the menu while the IPOD is actually in use in the car is to hit the menu button on the Ipod twice.

I'll second that. My 60gb Video works just fine manually if I tap the buttons.

My iPod link worked great for a while, until recently, where it stopped picking the correct songs and artists. So, I'd go, say, "c"---"The Cars" -- and get "The Darkness."

Which leads to some interesting results....

Playlists work fine, but artist and album names tend to now be one letter off.

And yes, I've deleted all the zzzz files and run the Acuralink from scratch...
