Intelligent Transmission?

I dropped off my RL this AM for 1st service and the TSB updates. Service Tech told me that one of the possible reasons for rough shifts at certain times but not others is that the computer is "learning" your individual driving characteristics and adapting or changing shift points or patterns accordingly.
I am aware of this computer ability in other devices, so I'm not dismissing it as bull... just yet.
Has anyone heard about this before ?

I have heard of this, but always questioned the truth of it.

I seem to recall reading something about the "drive by wire" gas pedal and the electronic brake assist also having a learning function that would adapt to your driving habits.

I don't know if this is true for the RL, or for any transmission for that matter. However, my last vehicle DID have a learning ECU. It had the ability to advance the timing/boost until the knock sensor reported some low-level detonation. The ECU would do this a number of times until it determined a "safe" place to advance timing to without detonation. This was supposedly done to compensate for different octane levels/mass air flow/temperature differences, etc. I really do not know all of the technical details of it. I do know that the ECU has the "learning" ability through trial and error.
