Angry Infuriated!!

I currently been having a problem with my Navigation system in the RL. As you guys know, without the navigation system you cannot operate alot of features.

This has been occuring since July. The warranty was expiring in early october. Basically, I have bought the car in so teh navi can get fixed about 15 times. It seem more like they were post poning it until the car was out of warranty. They "ordered" 2 navigation units and they both were defective. Neither worked. They also said i tampered with something...funny......

Basically they may not even fix the navigation unless i come up with COLD CASH...sigh...

can i get some advice..

Shawn if you were having this problem with the navi BEFORE your car was out of warranty imo they should fix it. I would call the acura customer care number. Ive seen the problems with your navi and id be pissed too.

Sounds to me like if the problem existed prior to the warranty expiration and hasn't been fixed yet, they need to fix it. Just my opinion and the angle that I would persue.

Also, doesn't a new unit installed by Acura come with 1-year warranty (for that unit installed) despite if your car is under warranty or not?

Honda/Acura electronic parts come with a warranty so if you have the receipt and the unit is verified to be defective by a Honda/Acura dealer then it should be replaced.

I found that out when I had to have a new oem Honda Accord distributor fail on me.

UNfortunately the car it was in was shortly after totaled so I was never able to take it to a dealer for inspection.

I think this is common knowledge for the parts guys so give em a call and ask at the dealer you had it installed.

your dealership seems a bit wack .. are they troubleshooting the issue or just swapping out units? It could be a problem with the wiring or something else they are overlooking outside of the NAVI unit.

good luck with this one!

Sounds like something else could be wrong, hard to believe you've seen 3 defectives incl the orig?

Did Carrie let her pet chinchilla go behind your dash?

Update

Yesterday while I was driving the Nav read DVD disc reading error. The dealer says I need a new unit. FML. The navigation system just keeps failing. Now I really do not know what to do!

I was having trouble with the nav volume. Brought it in a week ago and they replaced the nav unit and disk. Not only does it work fine but I got a new 4.81a disk.

hmm

has it been the same problem every time?

If it is the issue might be wiring related and not nav related.

I don't think it's the navi, but the wiring if the navi is having the same problem repeatedly.

This sucks, sorry to hear of it.

Do you have AcuraCare? Though it doesn't matter much, as you've been having the problem since the car was under warranty....should be fixed.

Won't Alpine repair the Nav DVD unit for a flat (approx) $200 fee? There should be a thread in the Nav forum from the guy who converted the base model RL to a nav-equipped version by buying a nav DVD unit from a junkyard and having Alpine repair it.

It cannot be the Nav.
Has any part of the car ever been modified, or something added and then removed?

Sounds like something is fishy, very un Acura like to let it go.

A disc read error could simply be a scratched or damaged disc.

I have had this happen to me last Sunday. I had to restart the car like 10x for the disc to work again (mine is a copy). I'm considering bringing mine in to see what's up during my next oil change.

It's probably the copy disk that's giving you trouble. I'd make sure I popped out the copy and put the original in before I brought it in but I'd guess it will work fine with the original.

I was running a copy of 4.64 (4.31 original). It worked fine until I got about 3 hours from home in any direction, then I ran into read errors and "see your dealer" messages. I put the 4.31 back in and it worked fine since.

I now have an original 4.81a and it's working as it should as well.

I am sure you did this, but check your disk. It is worth a try.

Now that Tampa says this, I recall that there was actually a ServiceNews bulletin about damaged disks causing navi problems, and what the dealer should do to inspect and remedy.
