The infamous whine??

Is it possible to have a high pitched sound on an '08 between 50-55mph?? It doesn't matter how long or how many times the car passes that speed but everytime I'm around that speed, I hear a high distinct sound..

My fiance hears a similar sound (at different speeds) on her '06 Nissan Sentra..

Does anyone have any insight to what this might be or has experienced it before??

If you read the thread you'd see that people experienced the whine ranging from 40 to 80mph with the prop shaft.

It's either the prop shaft bearing or torque converter, I had both of mine replaced, noise gone. Under warranty!

the 30-ish whine is the propeller shaft/ center bearing. I did have my alternator replaced last week because it was whining with the engine rev... and I think it's back again.

Now I am also getting an annoying clicking noise when turning the steering wheel... WTF!

I also get the clicking noise when I turn. I also get the whine at a variety of speeds. I'll be taking the car into the dealer soon before my extended warranty expires.

What's with the clicking noise???????

I actually hear a single click as I turn off the engine.. cannot tell whether that's normal or not..

As for the forums, I was unable to find anything concerning a high pitch sound @ 50-55mph yet until I read your post.. Keep us posted on what the dealer says..

I had some noise in my steering wheel, sort of like a knocking/clicking noise. I took it to the dealer and the mechanic came out and fixed it in two mins. He loosened the u-joint in the steering rack located under the dash behind a cover, let it reset itself and then re-tightened. Noise has been gone since. no charge.

I only hear the clicking with the windows open. It's like it's coming from underneath the car not from inside the car. I can hear it when driving straight but especially when I turn the car.....

high pitched whine at 72mph. I hear a very distinct, but not too loud whine while maintaining 72mph. If I accelerate or pull off of the accelerator pedal I don't hear a thing. But right at 72 or 73 the whine is constant. Tranny or Prop shaft?

'06 - 52,000, exact same whine. I had the car at the dealer and took a ride with the shop foreman. He heard it and said it's just normal transmission noise. Noting to worry about and I have no reason not to believe him as he's always been straight with me. Between that and now having it on record, I'm OK with it, especially since I don't hear it with the radio on.

thanks lland. You know now that you mention it, I had an 05 MDX and there was a high pitch wine at certain rpm and the dealer told me it was normal. I hope these guys are right!
