Ignition Switch

On occasion, my ignition switch will be difficult to turn all the way (on or off). The other day, I couldn't turn it past the "ACC" setting intil I moved the shifter from "Park" to "Drive" and back a couple of times (not sure if this helped or the switch just freed up on its own).

I'm going to have it checked next time I have the car in for service but was wondering if anyone else has had this issue.

Thanks.

Be sure steering wheel is not in the 'locked' position. If so, try turning wheel to the right and hold before turning on ignition switch.

Yeah, checked that. Wasn't the problem.

Have had exactly the same "problem" probably 10 times and it is always solved by wiggling the steering wheel to the left and right, then trying the ignition again. That seems to solve the problem. My wife who drives the car at least 4X more than I do has only had the problem twice so maybe it's a "guy thing"?

I have seen that problem before and it might be the ignition. I used to work for a garage and some cars have a problem like that. Also, an interesting thing when I went to install my backup cam and spoiler 3 weeks ago there was a car with the same symptoms like yours, exactly the same that need to switch gears for the car to start the ignition. I saw the work order at the service person's office. So, I would check the problem with dealer.

Is there anything in your pocket 'with' the FOB when you try to start the car. Whenever I have my Palm in the same pocket.. my FOB doesn't work. I have no idea why, but as soon as I move it to the other pocket... no problem.

Sometimes my cell phone (Motorola RAZR) is in my pocket with the fob. I usually have a Palm and Blackberry in the trunk as well.

If it happens again, I'll check with the dealer.

I have had a problem, on occasion, where I enter the car with my key FOB, start the car, drive, park, then I leave the car, but my wife has her FOB and stays in the car. For some reason this screws up the system. She has to walk a way from the car with her FOB, then I have to lock the car with my FOB, unlock it with my fob start the car, then she can come back in the car with her FOB. This only happens on occasion, like maybe 5 times. It is weird but it happens.

This is so weird. What kind of palm do you have? I have a 700 w and I never had that problem before. I also have my keys in the same pocket as the phone.

Usually if you hit the unlock after she walks away it should reset to your settings - or simply ask her to get into the car after you do so that the car recognizes your fob first. Those are the solutions that work for us in the same situation.

Yesterday I went out to wash the car and it didnt reconize my fob. When I got in and started it said driver 1. I asked my wife where her fobe was.It was inside the house. I pressed my unlock on fob 2 and tried again. This time it worked correctly. I think its electrical gremlins.

Last night I went to fill up and found the ignition sticky. It would turn a little bit, beep and the steering column would move down but it wouldn't turn...even to accessory. A little cajoling got it free....

I have had the same symptoms and the issue was the fob in the same pocket as my phone. My moto and fob don't mix well.
