I know this has been posted before but basically talks about getting center console out so can remove coin tray. Once that happen where and how do you attach the latch. I have the latch based on info from older thread on here. I’m not a car geek but am pretty handy so thought I might as well try. My mechanic couldn’t figure it out. Prefer not to get ripped off at dealer if possible. Also what tools are needed to remove console

 

Have to start from behind the shifter and pretty much take it all off from the cupholder forward...it's a pita regardless because even after getting all that loose you have to flex it out of the shifter plate...

 

Got shifter cover off and entire not an ashtray out. Does the replacement latch go somewhere on back of ashtray (can’t find anywhere it would fit) or does it insert somewhere else?

 

What latch are you referring to? The "not an ashtray"piece and it's lid are a one piece unit. If it's broken you'll need a new "not an ashtray" because it's a cheap plastic hinge, unless you're decent with plastic welding, of course...


I'll take a picture later of my "not an ashtray", which is out because I still haven't put it back in, so you can see what you're working with.

 

I somehow fixed it (sorta) tho have no idea what I did. Lid now closes - just have to pull up to open and it makes slight noise. I did order an entire replacement piece which I’ll put in eventually.
