How much can the drivetrain hold?

Looking into a possible NOS setup. Nothing too large, just around 75-100extra hp. Anyone know what the drivetrain can hold?

Are you going to track your RL with that setup?

I've had an intake and exhaust setup for the last 18 months with no difficulty. Adds 13-14 whp. I think you'll have a hard time getting 75-100 hp (either whp or bhp) out of the engine with NOS given the engine's high compression ratio.

Let us know what you learn, and please post your dyno results when you do it.

I'd go with a 50 shot MAX, high compression plus very highly tuned motor = very good possiblity of boom!

You would have to run a wet kit since the RL doesn't have a fuel return line, as far a I know...

Thanks everyone, not concerned so much of the compression as I have dealt with higher compression motors in the past. I was more curious how much the AWD aspect of the drivetrain has been proven to hold up to.
For example a GS400 can handle around 450hp-500hp to the trans before causing some fits. I take it there are no too many really mod'd RLs around.
thanks

I know it can handle 330 crank HP as the TL-S guys have gotten around 330 crank with no issues, and it has the RL transmission. My guess is it should be able to handle 400 crank. If you bought the RL to mod, I will have to say sorry, its the wrong car to.

Thanks for the suggestion, just about everyone here has mods on their cars, it is just a matter of the extend and type. The comment you made was to be expected and one I knew would be tossed in this discussion. Fact is, I have the car and will mod it in the fashion that I choose. I heard the same comment when mod'n every one of my Lexus vehicles since day one and nowadays it is accepted to mod a Lex.

"go buy a stang", " should have bought a vette", etc, etc, etc. heard it all when mod'n cars. At this point I am looking at the capabilities and potential. Are there other cars that can be better suited for mod'n? Of course there are. Did I purchase the car to race? Not that it should matter to anyone else but no. But does that mean I should not try or look into what is available? I see no issue with that.

There are many that believe that even purchasing an RL or in fact ANY Acura is a waste of time and money and coming from a very long line of Lexus's, Porsche's, BMW's, etc. I can say that many in the 3 camps look down upon Acura as a whole. I still own 2 Lexus's along with some other cars. So much for me paying close attention to the opinion of others.

Every mod starts somewhere and with someone. As this is my daily beater I doubt I will install a TT kit in it, but would like some additional HP, especially given the reputation the RL has along with it's rarity on the road.

I can understand where you are coming from. But what I meant was the RL was the wrong car since you can do almost NOTHING with it. The few mods a limited to:
Lightweight Pulley
Exhaust
Cats (hopefully being produced)
Weight reduction
port and Polishes
Intake
Nitrous

There is no way to tune the RL, so theres no supercharger or turbo possible. Hondata refuses to work on the TL, let alone the RL that only moves 316 units a month vs. 4K for the TL. I wish you the best in modding your RL, but there isn't much to do...

Thanks, will do the underdrive pulley, exhaust, intake, and j-pipe mod and reassess from there. Perhaps I can get away with a 50 shot with the above mods. Some lighter wheels as well.

From what I gather the PAX wheels are very heavy adding around 72-80 lbs to the car. The Legends are 51 lbs each so heavier than stock. My favorite so far-the AME 19's-weight in around the same as stock 17's.

The RonJon Legend wheels are lighter than 51 lbs, unless you mean with tires, and then it depends on the tires.

I do not have the reference, but I had thought Ron said the Legends, even the 19's were about the same or slighlty less than the OEM 17 and 18's. I only have an email from him in which he said they do not have weights yet, but they were designed to be lighter than OEMs. You should call him.

I have other info that says OEM 17's weigh around 27.

19" AME's should be lighter than, about 22, vs the stock 17 which weigh in around 27 according to Touge, about halfway down the page...

We may not have a ton of options as far as mods go but they definitely make a noticeable difference in performance. I just had my CAI put on and was very happy with the results. The difference in sound alone was incredible. I'm also about to slap on a set of 19 in. AME wheels i ordered from touge so i'll let you guys know how they feel. All of this mixed in with an A-Spec suspension/H&R spring combo.... I love my RL

There are plenty of options and now that they are becoming more affordable more modders have their hands on them. Hopefully that header comes out soon

One more thing, i was reading an old thread and apparently our car tops out at 134..... anyone know how we can get rid of this????? My baby wants to be let loose!!!!!!!
