Somebody please post me a link to the service bulletin about the drive shaft whine so I can shove this in their face on Monday when I go tell them it was a non-issue.

Basically this is how it happened.

-I hear whining noise between 31-33 miles an hour

-I take it to shop, I ask if the want me to ride along so I can tell the specifically what sound to listen for.

-They say no its okay he will have another guy along to listen.

-They come back, apparently they put it on lift, I did not see this though and they said noise was coming from drive shaft and this is how the diagnoised.

-I figure okay so the drive shaft must have gotten so bad it was a high pitched whining noise now. I should have them fix it and I authorize them to do that.

-I pick car up pay $634 dollars and they say noise is gone. I drive down road and immediately hear noise at 31-33mph.

What do you guys think should be done about this? Obviously we must not have been hearing the same sound or something. They told me I didn't need to ride along to specify sound. Drive shaft was a non-issue and didn't need replaced...I only told them to replace it because I thought it was causing the loud whining sound.

In my opinion if I take it in tomorrow and its still the drive shaft I think they should fix whatever it is at non-charge because they didn't fix what I paid them to fix.

If it is the transfer case I think I should pay for a used one and they should put it on at no charge because they misdiagnosed it to begin with it.

Do you guys think this is fair?

These guys are pretty honest and fair on price, I trust that they will make it right.

I am pretty sure they didn't hear it after they fixed it because it was warm that day. It seems to go away once it is warmed up or it is warm outside. Here is the noise I am talking about. I am pretty sure this is still the center bearing. Can someone with the issue verify?

Sounds like the same noise we all have, the info in that link should help and if you search "prop whine" you will see more.

LOL the funny thing is they replaced the center bearing and I have the old one in my hand. NOW WHAT THE HELL IS THE NEW ONE BAD? Or was it really never the center bearing to begin with and Honda was full of shit.

Maybe they could never figure out what part of the drive shaft it was coming from and they just made that shit up and said to replace the whole thing??

The bearing was from Precision bearings in Omaha. NE. You can find it somewhere on this page. They never gave me a part number but If I get around to measuring the old one I can probably find it through that page.

EDIT: But if the new bearing is causing the problem then you probably dont want to buy it LOLOL

I know you're frustrated, but I don't think they are liable for the next bill because of a missed diagnosis. It's anyone's guess what the issue was. They consulted you to approve the work for their guess before proceeding; right? The only way they pony up the next bill is if they damaged something in the process or didn't actually due the work that was paid for, and then they only pay to do that work.

Yes, well they drove it around and heard the noise, put it up on left and verified it was the bearing. Came back and told me it was the center bearing in the drive shaft. Said they had a technician who had replaced it before and they would try and do that for me. I said okay, they did it. I came to pick it up and they said they replaced the bearing and the u-joint. They said the noise was gone. I drive off and immediately hear the noise in the video above.

So I guess at this point I think we can conclude that I paid for the bearing to be fixed and for some reason after replacing the bearing it is still not fixed..
