How far past 0 have u traveled

If this was discussed in a previous post please direct me there

I've been tempted to see how far past 0 miles I can drive.
Maybe this isn't a good idea as I'm one to take things to their limits.

The other day I gassed up with 17 gallons after the 0 miles was displayed

So, How many miles have you logged after the RANGE of 0 miles appeared

Joe

I have logged over 30 miles past zero range.
My experience:
Range = 20, low fuel light warning comes on, fill-up 16.5 gallons
Range = 0, fill-up 17.5 gallons
Range = 0 plus 30 miles, fill-up 18.8 gallons

It may hurt your fuel pump if you run empty.

I was driving from Boston back to Cleveland last year on the NY Thruway near the MA border and noted I was just about at a range of zero miles. I involuntarily drove about 45 miles past zero as there were no gas stations!

Scared the crap out of me--I've never run out of gas in almost 18 years of driving.

neuronbob - that is exactly what I dislike about the RL range and fuel warning.
A small peeve given I really enjoy the car, but by the time the fuel warning comes on, the range is down to 20 miles. We know that the actual range is more, but we have no real information once it hits zero on what the real status is.
They need to fix one or the other, i.e., have the warning light come on earlier based on a range of 50 miles or make the range more accurate so that when the light comes on, we know the real range.

Classic Seinfeld episode about this where Kramer tests drives a Saab with the salesperson in the passenger's seat and they try to see how far they can drive on a near empty tank of gas. "Mr. Kramer, no one's ever made it this far with the needle so far past 'E' " the sales guy says.

Coincidently, today I entered the Garden State Parkway with my low fuel light on and drove another 25 miles or so. Reserve tanks have 2-3 gallons is my understanding, so driving 50+ miles with the low fuel lamp on wouldn't be unusual.

Running on zero also is very bad for your entire fuel systems efficiency. Taking that action starves the injectors which in turn sacrifice your fuel mileage over time. So? To each his own if that’s what you wish. However, I play it safe and I get 20+ miles per gallon each tank. I don’t go past ¼ tanks Just my two cents

1/4 tank left and I'm looking for the nearest gas station.

Ditto. I did it once or twice when I was on a road with plenty of fuel stations.

But nowadays with fuel eating into my Dunkin Donuts budget, I fill up around a 1/2 tank. It does not FEEL so expensive.

Just recently I had my range hit 0 and the RL only went a few miles. After the fill-up it turned out there was still 7 litres in the tank and the tank is 73 litres...so a bit less than 10%.

Like others, the range annoys me because it rapidly decreases when you get to about 3/8ths of fuel left and by the time the fuel light comes on the thing is next to useless. My range said 70kms left then the fuel light comes on and after driving about 5kms I'm magically down to a range of 30 then before I know it I'm under 10km range and having 2 kms drop off the range for every 1 km I drive.

Obviously Acura has the range set so you still have enough emergency gas left to get to a station when it reaches 0 but I still dislike how accurate it is throughout a full tank. How can I be on pace to have 650-700km on the tank for the first 1/4 - half tank but then suddenly finish with 530 or so when I am driving the exact same on the last half of tank? Clearly the range is funky and calculates differently before/after the half tank marker.

Acura does not want you to ever run out of gas so they play their games, probably to prevent fuel system problems. Don't run out of gas and blame Acura when things break.

I think the opposite would be better. Give a driver accurate information and you can make good decisions. Or, if you make a bad decision, there is no one else to blame but yourself.

Good idea, but most consumers prove otherwise.

This is good to know. The only time I drove past the E was for about 4 miles. I knew my gas tank was bigger than the 17 gallons that I will fill up.

The first time I got to 0 I freaked out. I was in fear of the obvious. Then I thought of the challenge and wanted to put a 5 gal container in my trunk (yea I know.... a dumb idea)

I'm glad there are fellow challengers out there that enjoy exploring limitations
