How does this RL look?

It's the same color and there's lots of snow here in Cleveland.
But seriously, my first thought about that car is "what's wrong with it?" for that price. The pictures make it look clean, though. If Carfax/Autocheck check out, as well as a mechanical inspection and drive, it could be the best deal we've seen yet on a used RL.
Are you already looking to get out of your G coupe, 06TL?

^^lol test it out for a few hundred miles and check it for bugs. Then you can sell it to me. Bob I was initially looking for a 4 door car as a second car to keep with the G, but I have now decided that in the current state of $ in the household it will be better to get a TL or RL and get rid of my G and winter beater rather than carry three cars, taxes and insurance. TL still looks more likely budget wise but when I see an RL at a price like this I gotta consider it!

If I had a surplus of cash I'd consider doin that lol. Not on this one persay, but maybe another one.. I wouldn't do that to a fellow Acurazine brother
Good call on thinking about just having the one car in these times.. I hate havin two cars, but it's actually better to keep my TL financially.. just a lil upside down . The money on any repairs, insurance, gas, whatever other crap, for three cars, would be tough.

WOW. Another el cheapo one. I give the same advice as to the person above. Full inspection, make sure VIN is on all panels, etc., but otherwise should be a good deal for the mileage.
We have a member who has well over 220k on his 2005 RL, and has had relatively few issues, so 82k is not overly bad.

After reading all of the electrical issues and such you guys write about, I am very nervous about buying an RL that is no longer eligible for a quality extended warrantee. Not as concerned with the TL in that regard as its not as technologically advanced and complex as the RL. It is soooooo tempting though. Its an awesome car for the $$

lol @ el cheapo. I was on hold waiting for the finance guy but he never came on and I had to go. What are typical terms for used car loans? My credit is decent, not good not bad. I'm getting killed on my TL loan because I had shat for credit at the time AND outstanding loans. I haven't missed a payment though, and my score has imporved 150 points or more.
Car is 16000...I'd like my payments to be no more than $350 a mo. IF I can get 5k on trade on the TL (2000 wdp in decent shape)...I owe about 3500 so thats 1500 toward the car, bringing me down to 14500 to finance. Even at a high 10 percent over 4 years, that would be 367 which is DO-Able. I'd walk away with the car if that happened. If I wait till mid march, I'll have a bonus from wk and be able to put maybe another 1000 down, bring my payments to 342. Now, thats a lot to go "right" but it could happen.
I'm curious if any of you have gone from the previous gen TL to this car. I'm sure its night and day in all aspects. I was leaning toward something more sporty, but what I want (Jeep SRT8) is not what I can afford. I kinda feel like the RL is a nice "upgrade" for the next few years.
Thoughts?

I want this now .....
To put things in perspective: I paid more for my S2000 a year ago than either of these cars cost. THAT's what a deal the RL is right now.

NB, thanks for the advice
I submitted a credit app online (don't know if that was a good idea or not). I figure that I won't be able to get to them via the phone because of hours, so they can process and give me a call. I can't see why I wouldn't get approved at SOME rate. It would be good to know an income to loan/payment ratio or something like that. So, we'll see what happens. Like I said, my magic number is $350 a month. I may have to wait a couple weeks, but if I can come out paying the same a month for RL vs old TL, that would be outstanding.

So I went to look at the car LATE last night. Its in Manassas Va. About a 40 min drive from DC. It was night when I got there, and the dealer was closed. The car looked good. It was dirty...for some reason I expected it to be clean and waxed lol. Not really reasonable though. I pulled on the door and it was open. I sat in it and everything looked good. I really didn't know what to "check' really. I did notice a hint of a spoke smell. I also noticed the silver part around the shifter had what looked like melted marks on it. The cigarette lighter was also stuck in the "up" position. Not stuck, but the latch that holds it closed wasnt' functioning. Probably a simple fix. Obviously I couldn't start it and drive it, or test the heat or a/c, or feel the brakes (although I could have looked at them...oops). My guess is the price is so low because it was a smokers car. It smelled like a smoking room (vs a non smoking room) at a hotel. Not a deal breaker really. I filled in the online app late last night, so I guess I'll hear from them later on in the day.

Two things:
First I bought my black on black RL in December and feel like I want to drive this car for eternity.
Alas, your mighty Pens are screwed right now because the Mighty DETROIT Red Wings are still around and oh, they look pretty good.

So, the bank will only finance 10k. The finance guy is calling around, but I really don't have any to put down at this point. I have my trade 2000 TL w/ 140,000 miles and I owe about 3500. Sale price is 15,999. Seems as if we are still pretty far apart, but we'll see.
My credit "score" has improved, but I had some bad stuff a couple years back and its still effecting my ability to get a loan.

I would personally pay 20k for one that had under 50k miles and was under factroy warrenty and pay anouther 1200 for a acuracara 7/100k extended warrenty.
the 2005's are a little quirky and have alot of tech, like the AC and the door handles that break and ar prob expensive to fix. I saw a few for under 20k that were still under factory warrenty!

you will be LUCKY if a dealer will give you 2k for that car!
I was looking at a RL recently and my 2001 CL-S with 150K was only getting 1k-1500 at dlrs.
So you ar going to need like 7k to put down becuse your prob going to be upside down $1500 on your TL maybee $1000 if your lucky then $15,000 + $1000 (upside down TL) and $1200 (Tax and MV) = $17,200 - $10,000 the bank will give u = $7,200 you need to put down!

I'd wait another year to allow your credit to improve and to pay down your TL. There will still be RLs for sale then. If you have to stretch yourself to get into this car, in this economy, it won't be a pleasant experience. You're clearly upside down on your TL's financing, and you say you don't have much to put down...so unless you can sell your TL privately for enough to pay off your loan, I'd forget it.

That is amazingly low for a trade. Blue book said 3k-5k I thought, but I could have read it wrong. So, now I am deciding on whether to try and have my bro cosign with me, or just wait till I have more cash into my car and cash on hand for a down payment. We'll see what happens.
NB, I may just do that. I pretty much saw the car and said "Hmmm...if this could work without too much headache, then I'd do it." I really thought I'd get more on the trade, but I guess not. I prob could sell it to pay off the loan. I dont know. Sigh. I wouldn't be "stretching myself" I dont THINK because monthly, I'd be paying the same. You could be right though. This has to be not a huge financial outlay for it to work, and right now it isnt working. If not, I am OK with that.

Wow thats a lot of miles, although I'm not really afraid of the miles really. I'm just going to cool down a bit and see what happens. I may be getting a bonus from work in a couple weeks, and maybe then I'll re-evaluate the situation. Stupid credit

Thats a thought. So how does it work when I don't have the title? I've never sold a car when I was in the midst of an auto loan. If I sell the TL, and get $1500 bonus from work in two weeks, I might be there.
#37
Car needs to be paid off before you get the title, unless you're in New York where you already have the title and just need lien clearence.
Etheir way the car needs to be paid off before selling.

He is right you are going to need a buyer that is willing to give u the money so you can send the rest to the bank and then wait for the title to come in.
Hard enough to find someone to buy it now you need someone that will buy it and is willing to wait for the title and be patient
