How do you remove the front cup holders?

Any clue?

I pulled the cover over the shifter off, pulled the plastic between the cup holder and the glove box off. I can get the back of the cup holder free, but the front of the cup holder closest to the gear shifter feels like it's being held in there with screws or clips or something.

I've searched here and see were people swapped to the 09+ wood cup holders, but there's no instructions on removal/replacement.

I'm actually trying to get to the bulb that shines in the glove box that's between the glove box and cup holders...

Thanks,

Nathan

Not sure about the RL but on the TL we have to loosen two screws on the glove box and move the entire console back in order to release the cupholders. Chances are it's them same/similar?

Did you figure this out already? I changed the center console bulb in the past and have PDF instructions on how to do so. I can post it sometime this week.

BTW, it's a ton of work to change out that tiny bulb...lol

I hate to just point you to a different direction, but if you do a search in audio section, there should be directions on how to install ipod cable which requires the whole center console to be removed. I remember I had to do that when I installed the ipod cable.

Did that. Can't find anything. I see threads on pulling the radio, which is easy, but doesn't say anything in regards to pulling the cup holders

I have one sitting on my desk at home as I swapped for the mmc version. If I'm not mistaken, its held it by clips. I don't thing there are any screws, however I'll double check. If you wedge a flat head at each corner and slightly lift, they should pop up.

I could do that for the back of the cup holders, but I could not get it to budge closest to the gear shift. I was really afraid of breaking it I had so much pressure on it.

Good call!! You can pop them up however I would use a something bigger than a flat head like a chisel. The part closer to the gear has to clips that are about 3/4 inch and look like they can break if not done carefully. That's about it though. I'm almost positive there are no screws.

You could do it on your way to work....when that driver cuts you off and you get pissed. Channel that short burst of energy to one corner and then if it happens again, the other corner and voila! haha

Didn't know there was a bulb in the console that could be gotten to thru the cupholders.

So the bulb is not really replaceable. I'll be figuring out something to retrofit in there, but just an FYI....

It's been a while but I replaced my center console bulb and never pulled any of that shit out to do it. Just pop the lens out from inside the center console and the light assembly comes out with it. Twist the bulb base from the backside and it separates from the lens. Replace bulb and reverse the process to reinstall. Same procedure for the glovebox light. IIRC, everybody was saying you risk breaking the lens doing it this way but I did it in my 2G RL and my 4G TL without any issues.

...and that's how the lens broke off in mine

This is the bulb. I can't just pull the bulb out from what I can tell. I could maybe try with a pair of pliers very carefully, but this bulb isn't easily pulling out for me

What's the difference with the MMC cup holders?

The cover/top is wood grain along with the shifter cover.

So I was installing NavTool in my wifes 2012 Odyssey and I noticed she has the same bulb/socket in her van, BUT the bulb is easily removable.... I'm going to continue messing with it to see if I can get the bulb out. Might just swap the whole plug for a new LED

Glad it worked out. First time I took mine out I had the same experience. I was nervous trying to get it out and then POP!

So here's the piece in question... My 2012 Odyssey has the EXACT same bulb and plug and it fits perfectly inside. Like I said, I just can't get the bulb out of the one in my Acura like I can in the Ody. I'll be going to the Honda store Monday to see if I can order the plug and then try to order the LED online. If that doesn't work, I'll know there's another way to make i work, I'd just like to have it as OEM as possible (as far as the plug goes)

Are you trying to change the bulb? If I'm not mistaken the bulb comes out but was a B to get out. I think of you use something to clamp and pull, you'll get it out. I'll try to find mine. I took that whole part out of mine and out the switch for my navtool.

yes I'm trying to replace the bulb with an LED. I'm going to try a clamp tomorrow because there's only three outcomes for this.

1 - I'm able to get the bulb out and replace it with and LED
2 - Bust the bulb and replace the plug with the Honda Ody one
3 - have to custom make a plug

I did get a cool little mod done today, but I'll post more about it later.

Just use like a needle nose pliers and wiggle it and it will come loose.

Hold the base with pliers and use a flat head screwdriver to pry the bulb out.

Well, I'm done. Got the bulb swapped for an LED and made a custom USB outlet. I'll put more info in my build thread...

I'm having trouble getting my cup holder out as well. I think it is free in the sense that it can freely move on all sides and can be lifted up, but it just wont actually come out.

Do I have to remove something else for it to come out? I have the center shifter plate with the heated seat controls up, but that's it. Do I have to remove the armrest plate? Did you pull it out with the lid up or down?

This thing feels like it was 60% out, it just wouldn't lift the rest of the way out... Very frustrating.
