Can anyone point me in the direction on how to change the engine air filter in the RL? I just got my A12 service due soon light and plan to change the Cabin and air myself. Thanks much for your help.
Cabin filter is VERY easy and you don't need any tools. Open glove box, then open owner's manual tray. Pull tray towards you and it snaps out. Look in newly exposed opening and you'll see the filter housing. Two finger latches get squeazed together and you can pull the assembly towards you. It slides out like a tray/drawer. Remove old filter, install new one (pay attention to air flow arrows). Reinstall!
the main benefit I felt was that tranny started shifting smoother, then again, it could have just been new filter vs old. In theory it's supposed to be more free flowing.

K&N Engineering, Inc., is informed that some automobile dealers and manufacturers are telling their customers that the factory warranty on their motor vehicles is “void,” if an original equipment (OE) replacement air filter, manufactured by K&N, has been installed on their vehicles. K&N finds such instances disturbing, and while it does not purport to give legal advice, K&N would like to refer you to the federal Consumer Product Warranties law, often referred to as the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, which states, in part, in Title 15, United States Code, Section 2302, subdivision (c), as follows:
“No warrantor of a consumer product may condition his written or implied warranty of such product on the consumer's using, in connection with such product, any article or service (other than article or service provided without charge under the terms of the warranty) which is identified by brand, trade, or corporate name; except that the prohibition of this subsection may be waived by the [Federal Trade] Commission if –
(1) the warrantor satisfies the Commission that the warranted product will function properly only if the article or service so identified is used in connection with the warranted product, and
(2) the Commission finds that such a waiver is in the public interest. The Commission shall identify in the Federal Register, and permit public comment on, all applications for waiver of the prohibition of this subsection, and shall publish in the Federal Register its disposition of any such application, including the reasons therefor.”
Just joined this forum today and already have useful information. I had my oil changed yesterday and the shop (not dealer) wanted to change the air filter. They only charged me twenty bucks so it was worth it, but then i started thinking about how I could start caring more for my 2005 RL myself. I plan on keeping it until it dies.
Hey! I opened air filter box and removed the filter, it was pretty dirty. I saw that it wasn't correctly installed. The face up was correct but the filter has a short plastic leg sticking out of one of the corners. That plastic leg was installed on the shallow side of the filter housing but that didn't make a good contact with the filter itself. So I had to just turn the filter, so the Honda wording would be upside down and closer to me and that plastic was now at the deepest side of the filter housing. Just wanted to re-confirm that Honda filters for 2010 RL do have plastic leg that sticks out from the bottom of one corner. (image provided)
